Bulbous Nose

What is a bulbous nose tip or rounded nose tip and what causes it?

Patients with  bulbous nose tip suffer from a very common nose and nasal-facial cosmetic concern, specifically, a very round or bulbous nasal tip. The cause of a bulbous nasal tip or rounded tip of the nose is usually developmental and hereditary. During childhood and adolescence, growth of the nose cartilages at the tip of the nose overgrow, leading to an excessively rounded and bulbous appearance to the tip the nose and a distortion of ideal nasal-facial aesthetics. Most people find that the excessive roundness of the nose distracts from optimal nasal-facial aesthetics, especially on front view pictures and can be distracting to both the patient and to viewers.

Can I treat my bulbous nose? And if so, how is that performed?

At SpaMedica, patients with a bulbous nose can be treated with a variety of techniques and procedures by Dr. Stephen Mulholland, a world renowned cosmetic surgeon and owner of SpaMedica. One of the simplest and least invasive procedures is a procedure pioneered and developed by Dr. Stephen Mulholland, called injection rhinoplasty, or the five minute nose job. During this procedure Dr. Mulholland uses a safe, long lasting injectable gel filler, such as Restylane, Perlane, Juvederm, Teosyal and Voluma to inject into the tip and bridge of the nose to create a more refined, feminine appearance to the nose and nasal-facial aesthetics. Alternatively, many patients may opt for cosmetic rhinoplasty or nose job cosmetic surgery.

During a bulbous nose tip surgery, or nose job surgery, Dr. Mulholland surgically refines and sculpts the cartilages that form the shape of the tip of the nose to create a more aquiline, refined and attractive appearance. Cosmetic rhinoplasty to correct a bulbous nasal tip can be performed under local anesthesia or IV sedation. Down time, pain and recovery are minimal and the results are lifelong and can usually result in a significant improvement and refinement in the aesthetic appearance of the nose. To help patients better understand how this procedure is performed and what kind of general appearance they can expect to achieve following treatment of their bulbous nose tip surgery Dr. Mulholland uses a special computer imaging system that allows the patient to view the nose tip changes that will likely occur.

SpaMedica Toronto Cosmetic Plastic Surgery Centre and Toronto cosmetic surgeon, Dr. Stephen Mulholland, have been treating patients suffering from a bulbous nose in Toronto since 1997. If I have my a bulbous nose tip treated will it come back?

Once you have undergone a cosmetic rhinoplasty procedure or cosmetic bulbous tip reduction procedure, the results of your sculpted cartilage improvement will be permanent. With injection rhinoplasty or five minute nose job patients can expect improvements for up to two years and repeat injections can be performed safely and effectively.
