What is a SonoPeel Treatment?

The SonoPeel microdermabrasion uses gentle ultrasound waves and energy to micro-abrade and smoothen the surface of your skin. The gentle SonoPeel ultrasound waves lift off the stratum corneum (outer dead cell layer of your skin), creating a smoother, and more youthful skin surface. By reducing the thickness top layer of your skin, or the stratum corneum, your skin will not only be smoother, but will also be improved by helping to reduce blackhead, white head and sebaceous plugs, all of which contribute to Acne Breakouts and poor quality skin. The SonoPeel Microdermabrasion, with its cavitational ultrasound, is an effective tool to melt and reduce sebaceous plugs in Acne Treatments. Depending upon your skin type, other forms of microdermabrasion such as Salicylic Chemical Peel Microdermabrasion and Silk Peel Diamond microdermabrasion may also be recommended by our medical spa or dermatology treatment team for the reduction of your stratum corneum. The resulting smooth stratum corneum is much more attractive, even and bright with a luminous glow.

In addition to SonoPeel, Chemical Peel or Silk Peel microdermabrasion our SpaMedica Toronto medical spa or dermatology specialists may add Blue-Light (also known as ClearLight) to your microdermabrasion and SonoPeel when treating acne. Blue Light acts to stimulate special chemicals in your sebaceous glands, called protoporphyrins which attack and kill the bacteria in the sebaceous glands. Blue Light therapy is painless and is repeated 2-3 times per week over an 8 week program. Blue Light therapy is combined with microdermabrasion and SonoPeels to attack bacteria from the “outside in” and “”inside out.

An additional special chemical, called Aminoleuvlinic Acid (ALA) or leuvulan may be added to the skin to amplify the BlueLight, ClearLight lasers ability to kill acne bacteria. ALA Leuvulan is a topical chemical painted on the skin 30 minuets before a blue light treatment and it blocks an enzyme in the skin cells that increases dramatically the reactive protophorphryin level in the cells and hence increases the number of bacteria that can be killed during the treatment. Your ALA leuvulan treatment may be combined with SonoPeel and/or FotoFacial treatment.

FotoFacial RF treatment is a pulsed light based and RF skin enhancement treatment that, when used alone, or in combination with the Microdermabrasion and SonoPeels can greatly enhance the peel treatment results. The FotoFacial RF (Radiofrequency) combines Intense Pulsed light (IPL) together with Radiofrequency (RF) energy to treat fine lines, brown discolorations, age spots, redness and textural irregularities. The IPL or Intense Pulsed light is attracted to and heats red and brown discoloration in the skin, erythema, red ruddy skin tones, rosacea and broken capillaries. By heating the red discoloration, the IPL or FotoFacial RF is able to close of the excess blood vessels, reducing red discoloration, shrink pores. Your FotoFacial RF treatment will tighten skin and lessen pores giving you a more youthful appearance.
