What Is An Earlobe Augmentation Procedure?
For many people ear lobes can be too small, underdeveloped or develop creases with age. For those persons who are uncomfortable with the appearance of their ears, there are multiple options that can increase, reduce or improve their appearance and size, and restore confidence in your appearance.
Treatment Options
Simple injectable ear lobule therapy with hyaluronic acid such as Restylane, Perlane, Juviderm, or microfat grafting can increase the size of the ear lobe to a more youthful, attractive proportion. Ear lobes may also be too large or hang too low as a result of many years of large earrings weighting down the ear and causing tissue expansion of the lobule. Ear lobe reduction is common and is performed simply by removing a wedged shape piece of the ear lobe and suturing the delicate scar so that it has minimal visibility.
What Can I Expect?
Ear lobe reduction procedures can be performed under local anesthesia with very little discomfort and sutures are removed by the sixth day. Ears can be pierced again after this procedure within six months. Torn ear lobe deformity happens from wearing large earrings or earrings that get caught on external objects and actually create a tear right through the ear lobe. This is often associated with loss of ear lobe volume and thin, atrophic, wrinkled, elderly looking ear lobules. Removal of the torn part of the ear lobe with an ear lobe reduction with a closure with fine sutures that are removed at six days is the treatment of choice. At the same time ear lobule augmentation can be performed using the patient’s own fat grafting or Restylane, Perlane or Juviderm.
Recovery and Healing
Following your ear lobe reshaping surgery or your ear reduction surgery, careful postoperative care is provided as part of your comprehensive plan by Dr. Stephen Mulholland and his surgical team. Careful protection of your ear from traumatic sporting events and the use of a headband for several weeks will ensure proper healing.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:
Who is a candidate for Ear Augmentation?
If you have ears that stick out too far from the side of the head or if your ears have an unusual or undesirable shape, you may be a candidate for an Ear Augmentation Procedure.
What is the recovery like for Ear Augmentation?
The operation is usually performed on an outpatient basis under sedation and local anesthesia. The ears are usually bandaged with a dressing that wraps around the head in a turban like fashion for several days, or the simple use of head band. Initial mild postoperative discomfort is easily controlled with oral medication. The ears usually look "normal" within 10-20 days. Usually, a thin stocking cap or head band is worn at night for 3 weeks after the first dressing is removed to protect the ears.
Contact sports should be avoided for about a month.
How much is a an Ear Augmentation procedure?
Procedures begin from $3999.00 and this procedure may be combined with other surgical procedures.
