{ Crooked Nose }

What causes a crooked nose and how might I treat it?

Toronto crooked nose patients suffer from a very common nasal-facial and nose disproportion called a crooked nose. The crooked nose usually results from hereditary overgrowth of cartilages and bones that pulls the nose to one side. Crooked noses can also occur from traumatic injury during childhood or adolescent development. Crooked noses usually present as an aesthetic displeasing facial-nasal disproportion, as on the front view the midline structures appear off centre and be distracting and displeasing to the patient and to the viewer.

Can I treat my crooked nose? And if so, how is that done?

Toronto crooked nose patients can be treated by Dr. Stephen Mulholland, Toronto cosmetic plastic surgeon, at his SpaMedica® Toronot Cosmetic Plastic Surgery Centre with a variety of techniques. One of the more common procedures for improving the appearance of a crooked nose includes a procedure developed and pioneered by Dr. Stephen Mulholland called the injectable rhinoplasty or five minute nose job. During an injection rhinoplasty procedure, an injectable, safe, soft tissue gel, such as Restylane, Perlane, Juvederm, Teosyal or Voluma can be used to inject along the bridge of the nose and create the appearance of a straighter, more midline nose and nasal-facial proportion. Alternatively, Toronto crooked nose patients may also undergo cosmetic rhinoplasty, or more commonly known as a nose job, to attempt to straighten the midline appearance of the nose. During this procedure which is performed under a general anesthesia at the SpaMedica® Toronto Cosmetic Plastic Surgery Centre, the structures leading to a deviation of the nose are corrected and realigned to provide a straighter appearance to the nose on front view. Usually, straightening a crooked nose is successful in improving the midline appearance of the nose and overall cosmetic appearance of the face. Dr. Stephen Mulholland, Toronto cosmetic plastic surgeon, uses simulated computer imaging to help Toronto crooked nose patients understand and visualize the results and components of the rhinoplasty procedure. During your consultation, Dr. Mulholland will walk Toronto crooked nose patients through a simulation of the procedure and provide a realistic estimate of what the nasal-facial balance or proportion should appear like after the repair of the crooked nose. Following the surgery the patients will wear a cast on the bridge of the nose for one week and should be able to return to work after that.

SpaMedica® Toronto Cosmetic Plastic Surgery Centre and Dr. Stephen Mulholland, Toronto cosmetic plastic surgeon, have been serving Toronto crooked nose patients and rhinoplasty patients since 1997 and are both one of Toronto’s and Canada’s oldest, most recognized and reputable cosmetic plastic surgery providers.

If I have a crooked nose treated will it recur or come back?

Recurrence of the appearance of the crooked nose can occur occasionally and protection of the nose for six weeks following the procedure is critical. Following injection rhinoplasty the injectable product can lasts up to two years and repeat injection rhinoplasties for crooked nose or other nasal-facial disproportions can be performed.
