Cardi B opens up about her liposuction journey

June 13, 2019

Liposuction surgery has been around a long time, but has evolved tremendously over the decades to become more efficient and comfortable for the patient. The common fat removal and body contouring procedure is particularly well-suited to helping patients address stubborn fat pockets that fail to respond to diet and exercise. Yet as common as liposuction procedures are—particularly in celebrity circles—rumours of celeb liposuction are more common than celebs actually owning their liposuction surgery experiences.

Recently, Grammy-award winning rapper Cardi B made an exception of herself while onstage at the Beale Street Music Festival. Speaking candidly about her feelings post-childbirth, Cardi described how she considered getting liposuction because she no longer felt like herself. Stubborn love handles, although not major, were something the entertainer, who was used to a “real tight stomach” was simply not used to.

Cardi has also been very vocal about the challenge of balancing recovery with her busy work schedule:

“Let me tell y’all something. I shouldn’t really be performing,” she said. ”I should have canceled today because moving too much is gonna @#&* up my lipo. … I can’t even feel my body, shit hurts.”

In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, Cardi said that she hopes being honest about her cosmetic surgeries helps others:

“I want to explain to people how hard it is to process. I feel like people look at girls on Instagram and go, ‘Oh, they got their lipo done and it was so easy. It is just such a long, hard process, almost like the same process as after you give birth to a baby and you see your body change.”

Cardi B has made no secret of the fact that she’s had several cosmetic procedures done, among them a breast augmentation—also post childbirth.

Liposuction surgery recovery

The recovery process for most liposuction procedures varies depending on the individual, but experts generally agree that bruising can last +2 weeks. Additionally, a compression garment is typically required for 6 weeks post-op to keep the skin ideally positioned while it heals. While Cardi didn’t confirm how much time she actually gave herself to heal before getting back onstage, the very act of sharing her liposuction journey with others only serves to emphasize the importance of quality recovery time for anyone considering liposuction!

It is not uncommon to return to very light, sedentary work the day after your liposuction procedure. Typically, however, it’s recommended that patients take 2-3 days off post-op for optimal healing. The more zones you’ve had treated, the more stiffness and discomfort you may experience—some might consider a week off work in such cases. And you should definitely wait 4-6 weeks to return to high-impact activities like jogging, running, weight training, dancing, and even yoga.
