Which Skin Conditions Do the SpaMedica Toronto Cosmetic Dermatologists Treat?

The cosmetic dermatologists at SpaMedica treat a variety of cosmetically concerning skin conditions on the face and fully body. Below are some commonly presenting concerns of Cosmetic Dermatology patients in Toronto.

Rosacea, Vascular Discoloration and Spider Vein Disorders

Some of the many conditions treated at SpaMedica’s cosmetic dermatology centre include the red discoloration of the skin, such as tiny red and blue spider veins, blood vessels, rosacea, erythema and flushing.

Generalized inflammatory conditions lead to dilation of blood vessels, redness, skin sensitivity, and even acne eruptions. Red discolourations and disorders of the skin include rosacea and rosacea-like illnesses. They can be treated with a variety of topical prescribed skin products, oral medications, or laser and light devices such as vascular lasers.

SpaMedica Cosmetic Dermatologists have the luxury of treating their patients in Canada’s largest private laser centre with the latest technology.

Review the Rosacea Toronto page or the Spider Vein Removal page for more information.

Brown Discoloration, Sun Damaged Skin, Freckles, Sun Spots & Brown Pigment Disorders

The SpaMedica dermatologists treat brown spots, brown discolouration, photo-aging (UV light damage), hyperpigmentation and dyschromia caused by sun damage.

There are many reasons for unsightly brown spots, such as age, sun exposure, genetic risks of melasma and hyperpigmentation. To treat these skin issues, SpaMedica’s Toronto Cosmetic dermatology team uses a variety of topical skin treatments and medically prescribed bleaching agents. They also utilize state-of-the-art laser and energy devices such as:

  • Intense pulsed light (IPL) Photofacials
  • Nanosecond King
  • Revlite
  • Picosure
  • PicoWay

For more information on the treatment of brown discoloration, see our sun spot removal page and our Sun Damaged Skin pages.

Wrinkles, Furrows, Folds, Lines & The Signs of Aging

SpaMedica’s Medical Cosmetic Dermatologists are experts at treating unwanted lines, folds and wrinkles. The techniques used to manage these include the use of fractional Fraxel CO2, Radiofrequency (RF) and ablative lasers such as:

  • OCynosure SmartSkin CO2
  • The Syneron CORE CO2
  • The Invasix Fractora
  • Intracell
  • Infini
  • eMatrix

They also combine Botox Injectables and Dermal Fillers to boost the laser’s effects.

Our cosmetic dermatologists can also utilize non-ablative fractional lasers and RF devices such as:

  • The Palomar 1540nm non-ablative laser
  • The Cynosure 1440nm and 1320nm fractional non-ablative laser
  • The Syneron Ematrix
  • Affini

IntraCell devices can also be utilized to reduce the sign of wrinkles gradually. These lasers achieve favourable results but do come with downtime. The Enerjet, a propulsive technology that propels soft tissue fillers superficially within the skin, allows for greater finesse in treating fine and deep lines and wrinkles.

See our Wrinkle Removal for more information.

Treating Enlarged Pores & Skin Texture Irregularities

The SpaMedica cosmetic dermatologists can effectively treat enlarged pores using their state-of-the-art lasers and energy treatment devices. We offer fractional non-ablative laser and RF devices such as:

  • The Palomar 1540nm
  • Cynosure 1440nm-1320nm
  • The eMatrix
  • The Fractora
  • Intracel
  • Infini

We provide non-ablative RF bulk heating with devices such as the Venus Freeze, Exilis and Forma that heat and tighten porous skin, which Enerjet can propel fillers into enlarged pores to reduce them.

See our Enlarged Pores or Rough and Uneven Skin pages for more information.

Stretch Marks Treatment

Stretch marks are over-distended and tensile-loaded skin with microfractures and collagen fractures (like stretching an elastic band), leading to white, silvery stretch marks or red discoloured stretch marks that can be aesthetically unattractive.

Toronto Stretch mark patients can develop stretch marks due to growth, weight loss/weight gain or childbearing.

SpaMedica Cosmetic Dermatologists have a variety of excellent ways to treat different stretch marks. Red stretch marks are turned white with a host of red treatment lasers. White stretch marks (hypertrophic marks) are treated with a whole array of new technologies, such as:

  • The EnerJet
  • Fractional ablative lasers
  • Non-ablative lasers
  • Fractional radiofrequency devices
  • Under the skin heating systems.

Scar Removal, Reduction & Treatment

Acne scars, along with traumatic and inflammatory scars, can all be treated expertly by the SpaMedica cosmetic dermatologists. Our team are experts in using red colour correction pulsed dye lasers, IPL light devices and soft tissue fillers to treat scars and improve their appearance.

For more information, visit the Scar Reduction Treatments page.

Acne & Acne Scar Treatment

The SpaMedica cosmetic dermatologists are experts in treating acute acne and acne scars, depressed cysts, hyperpigmented acne scars and skin irregularities.

Your SpaMedica Cosmetic Dermatologist will create the most effective and customized acne treatment program for your skin. The Intense Pulsed Light Photofacial or the Pulsed Dye laser is combined with fractional laser and radiofrequency devices that can significantly improve the appearance and reduction of acne.

The red and brown colour at the base of the scar can be reduced, and the scar itself will be evened. Blue light combined with a photodynamic topical chemical called ALA (aminolevulinic acid) can be beneficial, especially when coupled with stratum corneum reduction peels. Medically prescribed oral and topical acne medications and skin care are often used with laser and energy devices.

For more information, visit the Acne Scar Reduction page.

Birthmark Treatment & Removal

Brown birthmark patients can also be treated with advanced laser technologies at SpaMedica. Before treatment, Toronto Cosmetic Dermatology patients with large brown birthmarks need to be assessed by our team to ensure there is no skin cancer, such as melanoma.

Certain hereditary brown birthmarks can be treated with high-tech, ultra-modern brown spot removal lasers such as the new Picosure and PicoWay devices.

These devices use an ultra-short picosecond to shatter pigment and effectively remove it with a diminished risk of lightening (hypopigmentation) the underlying skin. The Cynosure Revlite, Syneron PicoWay, Gentle Alex pro, Cynosure Accolade, and Elite 755 nm wavelength lasers are also beneficial when treating birthmarks.

Visit our Birthmark Removal Treatment page for more information.

Laser Tattoo Removal

Our cosmetic dermatologists have the latest laser tattoo removal technologies, including the new Picosecond and Nanosecond lasers. These give our cosmetic dermatologists the most effective, efficient and versatile tattoo removal lasers in Canada.

Generally, a 75% tattoo reduction can be achieved in as few as six treatments. This compares to 14-16 treatments just two years ago, before the advent of the picosecond lasers. Even ink pigments that used to be traditionally difficult to remove, such as red, yellow, orange, blue, purple and light green ink, can be effectively treated with these revolutionary new tattoo removal lasers.

For more information, visit the Laser Tattoo Removal page.

Mole Removal

Unwanted moles, uncoloured, raised, flat or coloured, can be removed with modern laser techniques, carbon dioxide, shave excision, and non-surgical procedures that leave less of a mark or blemish behind once the mole is removed. Larger moles can be expertly removed, and the scar treated post-excision to eliminate or reduce discoloration.

See our Scar Removal Page for more information.

Unwanted Raised Lesions & Inflammatory Conditions of the Skin

The SpaMedica cosmetic dermatologists have many laser ablative devices and blood vessel lasers to remove unwanted, raised irregular skin lesions, smoothen pores, correct texture, and diminish inflammatory scars.

See our Scar Removal Page for more information.

Dermatology Services FAQs

How are the Cosmetic Dermatology Procedures Performed?

Toronto medical and cosmetic dermatology patients who undergo laser treatments are usually performed under topical anesthesia with or without an air chilling device.

Occasionally topical cryogen (freezing spray) is combined with laser treatment. Sometimes, a local anesthetic is used with a topical dermatologic laser before treatment. Most patients find cosmetic dermatology treatments extremely tolerable and can often return to work the same or the following day.

What Kind of Recovery Occurs After Cosmetic Dermatology Treatment?

The recovery after a cosmetic dermatology treatment in SpaMedica’s Toronto clinic will depend on the delivered laser and energy treatment. Generally, radiofrequency devices may have several days of redness and crusting and be treated with topical antibiotic ointment.

Treatments for unwanted brown discolouration or blood vessel lesions will usually leave no disruption of the skin surface other than slight scabbing, scaling or bruised discolouration. These can often be camouflaged with makeup.

Toronto cosmetic dermatology patients that visit SpaMedica will be advised at the time of their consultation what kind of recovery time will be required. Many patients proceed with their cosmetic dermatology treatment immediately following their consultation, while others will plan ahead if some degree of mild or moderate downtime is required.

How Many Treatments Are Required for my Cosmetic Dermatology Therapy?

Most cosmetic dermatology problems require 1-3 treatments, usually performed 4-8 weeks apart. At the time of your appointment, your cosmetic dermatologist will carefully examine your skin, discuss the risks and benefits of the various options, and you’ll be informed of each option’s pricing structure and recovery time.

What is Involved in My SpaMedica Toronto Cosmetic Dermatology Consultation?

Upon your initial consultation, you will complete the necessary medical history forms and consult goals and expectations. You’ll then have a private consultation with a SpaMedica Toronto skin doctor and an experienced medical aesthetician.

The options and outline of the program of treatment(s) that will be needed to improve your cosmetic skin concern will be outlined, as well as the costs. You can even proceed with your first treatment following your initial consultation!

What are the Side Effects, Risks or Complications of Cosmetic Dermatology Treatments?

The risks of cosmetic dermatology treatments on the face and full body are low and usually easily managed. The risks and complications can include prolonged erythema, slight lightening or darkening of the skin, textural irregularities, infection and even (fortunately rarely) scarring.

By ensuring that you see a SpaMedica Cosmetic Dermatologist, you significantly reduce your risk of complication because of their experience and the multiple different lasers, RF and energy devices at their disposal. Using the “right device for the right indication” ensures the highest degree of success and the least likelihood of a complication.

There’s no cost to these treatments if there’s a complication during your SpaMedica Medical and Cosmetic Dermatology therapy. Contact the team at SpaMedica today to feel and look youthful, confident, and rejuvenated.
