What is “fat transfer to breast”?
We’ve had a lot of inquiries about the “fat transfer to breast” process. In order to help you better understand this procedure, I’m going to break it all down for you. The process is called fat graft breast augmentation or sometimes natural fat graft breast augmentation.
The benefits of this procedure over standard breast augmentation are numerous:
- You experience double the benefit; larger breasts and fat removal
- Some people consider it safer, they prefer not to have foreign objects in their body
- The look is more natural (although not as dramatic)
- There are only small incisions from the lipo and the injection, so there is less risk of infection and scarring
- There is no risk of rejection or allergic reaction
- There is no specific maintenance required. Generally, 30% to 60% of all fat grafts will survive and Dr. Mulholland generally over-grafts, allowing for the fat grafts that will not take.
The results are less consistent than with augmentation with implants. While the breasts look and feel more natural, they may be asymmetrical. Most patients are happy with their volume, shape, and form enhancement following a single procedure.
To set realistic expectations, patients are warned prior to deciding to proceed with this fat transfer to their breasts, that a second session performed 12 months later may be required to optimize the results.
A reasonable expectation for increase is about ½ to ¾ cup size. Due to the fact that your breasts can only hold a certain amount of fat, this isn’t the procedure for you if you are hoping to go two or more sizes bigger.
Your body may reabsorb the fat, which causes your breast size to decrease over time. To help combat this, the doctor combines your platelets with the harvested fat. This process will slow down the re-absorption process and make it last up to two years.
Note that your fat can remain refrigerated for up to two years. You can save money by having more fat than is required harvested for future use.
