In a society where much emphasis is placed on how we look, baldness and hair loss is the source of anxiety. The word baldness alone is enough to strike fear in the hearts of many.
It’s not just men either – ladies, you know what I’m talking about. There is that moment when you take stock of your mom and grandmother’s hair and try to get a feel for the future of your locks!
There are a few possible solutions to combat hair loss and baldness in both men and women.
SpaMedica receives many inquiries about hair implants in our Toronto clinic. There are also various non-surgical options that can stimulate hair growth if the hair loss is mild to moderate.
If you are experiencing thinning hair and early signs of baldness, consider an evaluation by one of our cosmetic dermatologists to see if you are a candidate for Propecia or one of our other hair growth enhancers. Surgical hair restoration may be the best solution for you. on.
Hair implants or transplants require donor hair, which is usually taken from another area on the head where it won’t be noticed.
The results are natural looking and the process has advanced technologically, so it is smooth and accurate with very high success rates.
Dr. Mulholland and his team of medical professionals have been successfully treating hair loss and baldness in Toronto’s premier plastic surgery center – SpaMedica – for 20 years.
Potential Toronto hair transplant patients should simply fill out the appointment request form or “ask a question” form and upload up to 3 photos for Dr. Mulholland to review.
While getting hair implants via FUE transplant technology is one of our most popular procedures, it is important that you follow the simple after care guidelines:
- Take the necessary time off work, typically it is one week (unless you work from home).
- The first two to three days the donor site is covered in a head wrap.
- The wrap is removed by the third day and gentle hair washing and shampooing using a glass of water and finger tip pressure will be demonstrated.
- It takes about 10 days for the scabs to heal.
There is little to no pain with Artas Roboic FUE hair transplantation, as there has been no scalpel or sutures used. You will find the tiny harvest holes and recipient slits are more itchy than painful.
Growth of Hair Implants
The growth will occur in two phases. The first phase includes approximately 40-60% of the transplanted hair picking up a blood supply and beginning growth within 3-4 weeks.
After the bulbs pick up a blood supply, approximately 40-50% of the transplanted shafts will go into “shock hair” and fall out before starting to grow again about 4-6 months.
What does that mean? You can often expect good visible hair density enhancement in the first three to four months, which is then followed by second phase growth starting at four to six months.
Over 85% of all grafts “take” and it is not until 12-14 months that the final density and aesthetic appearance of the hair can be seen.
There is a comprehensive after care program offered, which includes high fluence, low level light therapy, topical minoxidil and nutrient serum as well as a medicated shampoo. This regime helps nourish the grafts and helps natural genetic hair growth as well.
Dr. Mulholland was the first physician in North America to use, refine, pioneer and master the art and science of the combination of Automated AND Robotic FUE hair transplantation.
With the advances in technology, cosmetics surgery, such as hair implants is significantly more affordable than it used to be. There is no reason to settle for thinning hair or baldness when there are multiple solutions available to you.
