Guy Lift (Gentleman’s Neck and Jawline Lift)
A Guy Lift – also known as a Gentleman’s Neck and Jawline Lift – removes excess skin and tightens the jaw line and neck, creating a sculpted, youthful appearance. The Guy Lift corrects sagging skin, double chins and jowls – all without visible scarring.
Note that in men, it is important to leave the cheeks alone, so as not to feminize the face.
Good candidates are those that have experienced:
- Loss of skin elasticity and muscle tone of the face and neck
- Decreases between the base of the nose and the corners of the mouth
- Facial and neck wrinkles
- If you believe you lack youthful chin and neck contours
- Tired facial appearance
As we age, the naturally aging of the face consists of deflation, descent and deterioration. Deflation refers to the loss of facial fat and volume. The unsupported tissues of the mid-face, jowl and neck then begin to descend.
A truly natural and attractive Guy Lift procedure will restore, through a natural and balanced way, the fullness of youth through volumization techniques such as fat grafting or transfer of various gel fillers at the same time as facial rejuvenation and face lift surgery.
The ranges in face lift surgery vary from very small “mini-Guy Lifts” which provide improvement for the jaw line and upper neck, to intermediate type jowl and neck lifts to full face, cheek, jowl and neck lifts.
Dr. Mulholland will select the most inconspicuous incision locations to minimize any risk of visible scars. Incisions are hidden within and behind the ear to hide them from view, even in men with short or absent hair.
Dr. Mulholland will remove skin and fat from the face, making it appear younger. The incisions Dr. Mulholland makes will depend on your goals for the procedure. Dr. Mulholland will raise areas of the face you want lifted like the cheeks, neck and temple. Patients stay overnight, and go home the next day without the need for any dressings.
The minimal initial discomfort is easily controlled with oral medication. Sutures are removed within 10-14 days. Bruising and swelling decrease to “socially acceptable” levels in 10-20 days. An early result is evident in 4-6 weeks or sooner with continued improvement for several months.
Risks and Complications
The risks and complications for the facelift are the following:
- Probable scars from the incisions
- Allergic reaction
- Adverse reaction to anesthesia
