How does CoolSculpting work? And is it really worth it?

August 30, 2019

CoolSculpting is a noninvasive fat reduction treatment proudly offered at our SpaMedica clinic in Toronto. In short, the cutting edge technology targets and freezes fat cells on the spot, and in the weeks and months post-treatment, your body naturally removes and destroys said fat cells. The most common treatment areas include the tummy, hips, thighs, bra-line, arms, and double chin. Sound to good to be true? It’s no wonder people question whether it actually works and whether or not it’s worth it.

CoolSculpting at our Toronto SpaMedica: how it works

First, the CoolSculpting applicator is applied to the treatment area, and once the appropriate parameters are entered, it gently sucks unwanted fat up into the CoolSculpting chamber. The temperature within the chamber then drops below freezing—a temperature decrease sufficient to disable and kill fat cells. This process is known as cryolipolysis. Up to 22% of the fat cells exposed to “freezing” will die, resulting in significant fat reduction and body contouring improvements. Generally, you will see very noticeable results within 12 weeks post-treatment. Many of our patients sign up for another treatment or two to enhance their results. CoolSculpting treatments take about an hour per area.

At the start of a CoolSculpting treatment, particularly with the use of suction-coupled hypothermia applicators, there may be some mild to moderate discomfort. There may be some swelling and edema after the procedure as well as some tingling and numbness in a small minority of patients. This is, however, temporary. Patients can typically return to their usual daily activities without delay, including high-impact aerobics.

Is CoolSculpting at our Toronto clinic worth it?

You may start to see contouring improvements and local area reduction as early as 3 weeks after each individual CoolSculpting treatment, and results may improve up to 12 weeks post-treatment. After 6 weeks post-treatment, my team may recommend additional CoolSculpting treatments. Our most successful CoolSculpting patients typically receive 2 treatments, spaced 6 weeks apart. Many patients experience 2-3 centimetres’ worth of fat reduction after a single treatment cycle!

The fat cells that are killed during the course of your CoolSculpting program at SpaMedica are permanently killed and therefore the body contouring reduction results that you achieve are long term, however it is very important that you commit to maintaining a consistent weight following treatment in order to maintain optimal results.

In general, the SpaMedica nonsurgical liposuction program costs about $2000 per zone, with discounting on subsequent additional zones. This price includes the integration of multiple body contouring technologies (to be discussed during your consultation) as well as your series of treatments throughout a 6-week interval.

So is CoolSculpting worth it? You decide. Our CoolSculpting patients tend to leave extremely satisfied—with good reason! Schedule a consultation at SpaMedica in Toronto today to learn more.
