What is Juvederm?

Juvéderm is a soft tissue filler or dermal filler that is made out of “sugar gels”. Sugar gels are repeating units of hyaluronic acid sugar. The hyaluronic acid sugar gels have become the most commonly injected dermal filler product in the world. The reason they are so commonly injected is that they are well-tolerated by the body, they last a long time – even up to a year or two, and they require no skin test prior to injection. Juvéderm Toronto is one of the most commonly-injected hyaluronic acid sugar gels available.

How is Juvéderm® injected?

Juvéderm® comes in a variety of product types. Juvéderm® Voluma is the largest and most highly-cross-linked of the Juvéderm® family and it will last up to two years. Juvéderm® Voluma™ is often used for large-volume contour restorations such as the temporal hollow, cheek arch and cheekbone, under the eye and jawline. In addition,Juvederm Voluma™ may be used in the lips and sometimes even to contour the nose. The Juvederm injection is performed with a small, blunt micro-cannula. The micro-cannula injection technique was pioneered by Dr. Mulholland. He has taught physicians and injection experts worldwide. All injection specialists at SpaMedica are trained personally by Dr. Mulholland and have many years of soft-tissue filler injection experience. Some of Toronto’s most respected dermatologists, plastic surgeons and nurses work here at SpaMedica.

The blunt micro-cannula are introduced under the skin. Most Juvederm injections are performed along the surface of the bone, when shaping the face, or directly under the skin when correcting deep lines and furrows. Juvéderm® Voluma, as well as its sister products Juvéderm® Ultra Plus and Juvéderm® Plus, have lidocaine or local anaesthetic already mixed in. Thus, while the injection is proceeding, anesthesia is also being instilled.

Who is a candidate for Juvéderm Toronto Treatment?

Juvederm LipsCandidates for Juvéderm® injections are those individuals that have lost some of the volume and proportion of their face or back of their hands.Main reasons for Juvederm treatment are either because of age, or animated individuals develop deep lines and furrows. Juvederm Toronto candidates also include those who would like larger facial proportions than they inherited, such as a different-shaped nose or more aesthetically-pleasing lip or jawline contours. Juvéderm® products, such as Juvéderm® Voluma™, Juvéderm® Ultra Plus™ and Juvéderm® Plus™ are expertly deployed in the areas where they may be indicated. A good candidate for Juvéderm® soft tissue filler and dermal filler is realistic about the type of smoothing, youth, volume and shape that can be achieved with a simple soft tissue filler. Often candidates will undergo combination therapy at SpaMedica with BOTOX®, Fractional lasers and IPL FotoFacical RF and IPL Photofacial colour correction and lasers.

Contraindications to Juvéderm® injections would be allergic reaction to Juvéderm® in the past. This is exceedingly rare and usually due to the cross-linking material rather than the Juvéderm® itself. Other contraindications would be patients who might be pregnant or patients with inflammation, infection or skin cancer in the area of injection.

Is Juvéderm painful?

The Juvéderm® products are mixed with xylocaine and local anaesthesia. As such, they are very comfortable and tolerable procedures.

How long does the Juvéderm® soft tissue filler injection take?

The Juvéderm® injection procedure takes approximately 15 to 45 minutes. Depending on the amount of product injected and the areas it is injected.

How long is the recovery following a Juvéderm® injection and are there any Juvederm side effects?

The recovery following a Juvéderm® Toronto procedure depends upon the areas injected, the amount injected, the patient and age of the patient.  Individuals who have not been taking aspirin or non-steroidal anti-inflammatories leading up to the procedure generally have minimal swelling. Especially with the blunt micro-tip cannula technique. There are some minor Juvederm side effects such as bruising and swelling. The blunt micro-tip cannula tends not to disrupt small vessels and veins that lead to bruising. There’s a modest degree of swelling and depending on the number of syringes and areas injected, most patients can return to work the next day. For large-volume injections and Voluma™ lift treatments, it is recommended that patients take one or two days off prior to returning to work.

What kind of results can I expect with my Juvéderm filler injection?

You can expect excellent results following your Juvéderm Toronto injections. As the SpaMedica injection nurses and doctors have been trained personally by Dr. Mulholland. They are highly qualified, with many years of experience of soft tissue contouring, volume shaping, line and wrinkle management. It is common for patients undergoing soft tissue filler injections at SpaMedica to look 5-10 years younger after their combinations of filler, botox and laser procedures.

What are patients saying about their Juvéderm® injections at SpaMedica?

SpaMedica soft tissue filler and dermal filler injection patients are generally extremely happy. SpaMedica has been injecting soft tissue fillers for well over 15 years. Dr. Mulholland and most of his expert injection nurses have more than 15 years of experience. Over 85% of all soft tissue filler injection patients return to SpaMedica. They know they are receiving the artistry and expertise that leaves their face looking natural and attractive rather than over-injected. Thus avoiding the dreaded “filler face”. You can find soft tissue filler and Juvéderm® injection centres anywhere, but very few, if any, have the overall artistry and expertise of SpaMedica. To see what patients have to say, watch Dr. Mulholland perform his famous Volumalift procedure on The Today Show Volumalift episode and/or The Doctors Show Volumalift episode.

How long does Juvederm last?

Depending on the product used, the results of Juvéderm® injection may last up to two years.  Juvéderm® Voluma™ is the longest-lasting Juvéderm® product and is often used for volume shaping of the face, hands and volumization of the lips. In general, most patients get volume shaping once a year. Most patients return for re-injection every 12 to 14 months to maintain the optimal soft tissue proportion, shape and smoothness.

Is there any maintenance required?

Soft tissue fillers and facial shape and proportion in general are temporary. As we age, there are enzymes that break down our normal collagen and elastin as well as the hyaluronic acid sugar gels. Hyaluronidases are natural degradation sugar enzymes inside our bodies and cells that break down the Juvéderm® product over time. Most patients who enjoy nice post-soft tissue Juvéderm® contour and shape will return between once a year to once every year-and-a-half for volumization and restoration. Highly-animated areas, such as the lips, tend not to last as long as un-animated areas and require re-injection sooner.

How much does Juvederm Toronto cost?

At SpaMedica, generally the injection procedure pricing is by the syringe. Juvéderm® Voluma™ starts at approximately $699 a syringe and Juvéderm® Ultra Plus™ at $599 a syringe. Juvéderm® Refine™ starts at $399 a syringe. At SpaMedica, nurse injector prices for Juvederm products cost from $399 to $699 a syringe. However, the more syringes you inject, the less you pay per syringe. As one of Canada’s highest-volume injection centres, we’re able to procure excellent pricing from manufacturers. We pass this opportunity on to our valued soft tissue injection and Juvéderm® clients.

Why choose SpaMedica and Dr. Mulholland for my Juvéderm® injection?
