Are You A Liposonix Nonsurgical Fat Reduction Candidate?
Good candidates for Liposonix nonsurgical fat reduction treatment are patients who want target areas of stubborn body fat without invasive surgery.
Liposonix is a high-frequency focused ultrasound device for the permanent fat reduction of localized unwanted areas of contour concern. Liposonix is one of the ultrasound treatment devices that can be used to permanently reduce fat in those Toronto non-surgical liposuction and fat reduction patients that want to avoid surgical intervention.
How is Liposonix performed and how does Liposonix fat reduction work?
The Liposonix ultrasound transducer is placed over the soft tissue area to be treated and contoured. Non-invasive ultrasound waves are then sent across the skin into the areas of unwanted fat where permanent fat destruction occurs. Liposonix accomplishes its non-surgical fat cell destruction through a thermal mechanism, using the heat at the point of focused ultrasound to thermally destroy the fat cell permanently.
UltraShape, the other high-frequency focused ultrasound device, uses a gentle cavitation at the point of focused ultrasound, rather than heat, to result in permanent fat destruction and fat reduction. The Liposonix procedure uses a small amount of ultrasound gel under the transducer and the treatment is performed by sending static, stacked pulses over each treatment square and the transducer is passed over the area where the unwanted fat is to be permanently destroyed.
What kind of anesthetic is used for the Liposonix fat reduction treatments?
The Liposonix ultrasound treatment is acceptably tolerable, with modest pain, without any local anesthesia or anesthetic required. The thermal destruction mechanism does result in a degree of discomfort that is often treated with simple oral, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medications and an oral narcotic.
Is the Liposonix fat reduction treatment painful?
Liposonix treatments result in a very modest degree of discomfort and most patients find this degree of discomfort entirely acceptable.
How long does the Liposonix fat reduction procedure and program take to perform?
Liposonix permanent focused ultrasound fat reduction and other focused ultrasound devices, such as UltraShape and VaserShape, require a series of one to three treatments, with each treatment separated by approximately two to six weeks, depending upon the ultrasound technology. In general, patients notice the results of their focal fat reduction after a single treatment and a one-hour one treatment can result in a one dress size reduction through permanent fat reduction. Optimal results are often achieved at the SpaMedica non-surgical liposuction fat reduction program by combining focused ultrasound treatments with other technologies such as permanent reduction radio frequency, such as BodyFX or hypothermal techniques, like Zeltiq to achieve the optimal non-surgical liposuction fat reduction. Each treatment takes approximately one hour and common treatment zones include the lower and upper abdomen, the hips and the outer and inner thighs.
How long is the recovery following my Liposonix fat reduction treatment?
There is no down time following the Liposonix focused ultrasound treatment for unwanted fat and patients can return to normal activities immediately. Occasionally, there is some redness and swelling and some patients leaving our Toronto clinic will experience very modest bruising in the area of a Liposonix treatment.
Is there any maintenance required following my Liposonix treatment?
The Liposonix focal fat reduction is permanent in nature and, as such, no maintenance is required to keep the dead fat cells away. However, subsequent Liposonix or synchronous permanent fat reduction treatments can achieve more permanent fat reduction. In general, SpaMedica Toronto will treat the skin overlying any non-surgical liposuction area as well, with very effective and efficient, non-invasive radio frequency skin heating devices to achieve tight skin in addition to fat reduction. It is recommended that maintenance skin tightening treatments be performed once every three to four months to keep the skin tight and firm over the permanent reduction zones.
Contraindications for Liposonix include those individuals who may be pregnant and any localized areas of infection, inflammation or skin cancer over the areas to be treated.
What kind of results can I expect following my Liposonix fat reduction treatment?
Most patients will see a noticeable reduction of one dress size after a single treatment. Most SpaMedica patients at our Toronto clinic undergo a series of treatments involving high-frequency focused ultrasound, like Liposonix or UltraShape in combination with permanent fat reduction radio frequency treatments to both tighten the skin and optimize the number of fat cells that are destroyed with the non-surgical SpaMedica Toronto liposuction program.

How long will the results from my Liposonix fat reduction treatment last?
Liposonix and UltraShape are high-frequency focused ultrasound systems, one thermal and one cavitational, which result in a permanent death of the fat cells that are exposed to the energy. As such, those fat cells that have died and will never return. However, just like liposuction patients, Liposonix and UltraShape patients need to monitor their weight very carefully postoperatively to avoid any unnecessary excess carbohydrates going to either the area of treatment or to other areas which will affect their contour. If Liposonix patients monitor and control their weight, the fat reductions achieved should be permanent.
The benefits of Liposonix treatment are:
- No incisions required
- A noninvasive procedure so little to no downtime and minimal side effects
- Can target areas of stubborn fat.
How much will my Liposonix fat reduction treatment procedure cost?
SpaMedica non-surgical liposuction programs are programmatic and multi-treatment in nature with two or more devices. Toronto non-surgical liposuction fat reduction patients that undergo their SpaMedica program will receive one to two procedures such as Liposonix or UltraShape and BodyFX in a combination of treatments that generally requires between three to six treatments. The total treatment cost is generally charged per zone and the treatment price depends on the size of the zone and the number of technologies needed to optimize the permanent focal fat reduction. In general, the starting price for the treatment program costs less than $2,000 per zone, which is about one-third, or 30%, the price of a liposuction procedure.
Why choose SpaMedica and Dr. Mulholland for my non-surgical Liposonix and HIFU fat reduction program?
Dr. Mulholland and SpaMedica have been at the forefront of non-surgical liposuction and fat reduction technologies, often pioneering these treatments. Dr. Mulholland has spoken nationally and internationally on the use of high-frequency focused ultrasound, such as Liposonix and UltraShape for the permanent reduction of fat. By selecting SpaMedica and Dr. Mulholland, you will be attending a centre with one of the world’s most experienced practitioners at the helm of the treatment of the program. In general, at SpaMedica Toronto, you receive more than one permanent reduction technology to optimize your non-surgical liposuction fat reduction results. Dr. Mulholland will ensure that you also get skin tightening devices at the same time as fat reduction to help you achieve the best possible fat reduction with the most advanced technology available. In addition, Toronto non-surgical liposuction fat reduction patients that attend SpaMedica are able to one day apply a significant proportion of their non-surgical liposuction fees against a minimally-invasive BodyTite or SmartLipo liposuction procedure to improve even more upon their permanent focal contour reduction goals.
