Selecting a Plastic Surgeon & Avoiding Common Mistakes

July 10, 2018

The American Society of Plastic Surgeons recently released a list of the top mistakes patients make when selecting a plastic surgeon.

We really liked this list and we think it had a ton of great info on common missteps patients make.

Here are our biggest 3 takeaways:

1. Beware of bargains

The cheapest surgery you can get is one that only needs to be performed once. By that, we mean corrective surgery can be very costly if you go with a surgeon who cut corners the first time. Many low-cost surgery centres save those expenses by cutting back on support staff or operating in non accredited facilities.

2. Understand Your Doctor’s Aesthetic Sense

Everyone has a different definition of beauty and it’s important that your doctor’s aligns with yours. Look at all their before and after photos to make sure you’re a fan of the types of results they deliver. Even if it’s good work but still doesn’t match the “look” you’re going for, keep searching for your surgeon.

3. Avoid Conveyor Belts

Consultations are crucial not only because it’s your chance to meet your doctor but because it’s important to make sure you’re both on the same page regarding your goals, desired outcomes, preparation, and recovery. Clinics where your procedure will be performed by whoever happens to be working that day are places to avoid.
