At SpaMedica, the cost of a mini tummy tuck typically starts at $6,999.
Generally, it takes approximately 1-3 weeks for bruising and swelling to decrease following the procedure. Also, it is worth noting that oral medication can be used to easily manage any initial discomfort.
The length of the procedure depends on the breadth of the cosmetic work. However, on average, a mini tummy tuck takes approximately 2 hours to perform.
Also known as a partial abdominoplasty, a mini tummy tuck is a procedure that combines elements of a traditional tummy tuck and liposuction to help the patient achieve a thinner, sleeker look and tighter tummy skin.
A mini tummy tuck is designed for men and women who are in average to good physical shape, but who would still like to remove excess fat and skin from the lower tummy. In many cases, the procedure is performed on women who would like to remove the unsightly skin fold that is present following a C-section.
Regardless as to why it is being performed, the mini tummy tuck is a quick, efficient way to resolve excess fat and skin above the lower abdomen and pubic area. As it is a lighter procedure than its traditional counterpart, a mini tummy tuck also boasts a faster recovery process and has a significantly lower risk of possible complications. Usually the tummy muscle, (the rectus abdominis), is not repaired with a mini tummy tuck.
In truth, there is no particular age restriction for a mini tummy tuck procedure, and there is no specific trait that defines a “good” candidate. Fundamentally, good candidates are patients who would like to remove excess skin below the belly button, have reasonable expectations and want a boost in their self-confidence.
While there are no specific traits that dictate candidacy, there are certain conditions that can make the process more seamless.
Proper Physical Health
Good health and a lack of serious medical conditions are vital for a proper recovery following a mini tummy tuck procedure.
As is the case with most cosmetic procedures, good candidates have realistic expectations concerning the risks of the surgery.
During a mini tummy tuck procedure, only a specific part of the abdominal skin can be removed. As such, patients should only have a moderately thick layer of abdominal fat. If patients require more extensive work, we often recommend considering a full abdominoplasty.
As a mini tummy tuck is less invasive than its traditional counterpart, the recovery time is shortened, and there is significantly less scarring. It can be performed comfortably using gentle local anesthesia
A mini tummy tuck is also a less costly option for those who do not require the extensive cosmetic work of a complete abdominoplasty.
A mini tummy tuck procedure is available to a wider group of people, including patients who are not suitable candidates for a full abdominoplasty due to scarring from a previous procedure.
No Repositioning of the Belly Button
The mini tummy tuck is ideal for patients who don’t require additional sculpting above the belly button.
Most of these complications are listed on the internet but Dr. Muholland has not encountered these issues in his own professional experience.
Poor Wound Healing
In rare cases, the skin along the incision line heals poorly. However, the doctors at SpaMedica can prevent this adverse effect with antibiotics.
The external scar on the bikini line is typically imperceptible, but can occasionally be visible after surgery.
In extreme cases, fatty tissue within the skin might get damaged during the surgery. However, in these instances, a follow-up procedure can be performed to reverse the effects of tissue damage.
Changes in Skin Sensation
During a mini tummy tuck, the repositioning of fatty tissues will affect the nerves in the abdominal area. While it is likely that you will experience some numbness after the surgery, the reduced sensation usually diminishes after a few months.
Led by the incomparable Dr. Mulholland, the skilled and experienced cosmetic surgeons at SpaMedica combine technical proficiency and unparalleled precision with an individualized approach that puts the patient first. By using advanced plastic surgery techniques and state-of-the-art equipment, the SpaMedica team is capable of producing incredible results while also reducing the risk of complications.
A mini tummy tuck, armlift or thighlift patient who is not a good candidate for surgery can respond well to modern skin-tightening like the new Evolve Tite.
At SpaMedica, a mini tummy tuck procedure is performed under local anesthesia with IV sedation. Prior to your surgery, Dr. Mulholland will determine the best type of anesthesia to use based on your previous medical history, as well as your current prescriptions.
During the procedure, Dr. Mulholland makes an incision just above the pubic bone, allowing him to remove any excess fat and loose skin, but keep your scar well below the underwear and bathing suit line. While the incision lines are permanent, they remain hidden wherever possible, before gradually fading over time. Before finishing up, Dr. Mulholland tightens up the skin and muscles to ensure that the change appears natural and aesthetically pleasing.
Prior to your procedure, Dr. Mulholland and his team will review your medications and medical history. Based on the scope of the surgery, SpaMedica doctors may recommend that you stop taking certain medications before the surgery. It is also recommended that you consume a healthy diet and drink plenty of liquids before your surgery.
Please note that, after the surgery, you will be impaired from the anesthesia and thus unable to drive. In fact, patients should refrain from driving for at least 2 weeks.
Following your procedure, Dr. Mulholland and his team in Toronto will recommend a comprehensive postoperative care regime. This regime will include instructions about the importance of avoiding physical activity, abstaining from alcohol and smoking, and minimizing exposure to the sun. Also, please note that mini tummy tuck patients will be required to wear a fitted compression garment for 3 weeks after the surgery.
Postoperative treatments with non invasive skin tightening technologies, like the Evolve Tite, the Venus freeze and Forma will deliver non ablative skin tightening, that amplify your results and is included in you mini tummy tuck program.
After the Surgery: While discomfort is expected immediately after the surgery, it can be managed with prescribed medication.
First Few Days After Surgery: It is recommended that patients walk slowly within the first 2 to 3 days. In addition, it is preferred they walk in such a way so that they are slightly bent forward in order to prevent any damage to the incision.
Two Weeks After Surgery: Patients are able to return to work.
Three Weeks After Surgery: Patients may stop wearing their compression garment. Patients may also resume physical activity.
Liposuction and Breast Augmentation are commonly combined with mini tummy tuck surgery. Noninvasive options for tighter tummy skin include the bulk heating RF device such as the Velashape 3, the Evolver Tite and the Venus freeze.
At SpaMedica, the actual mini tummy tuck will not be felt as local anesthesia is applied. While there may be swelling and discomfort afterwards, there will be no extreme or long-term pain.
Whereas a traditional tummy tuck is designed to remove excessive fat situated above and below the belly button and make a new belly button and tighten the tummy muscles. a mini tummy tuck simply involves removing lower abdominal skin excess. As such, both procedures have wildly different recovery periods; it takes approximately 1-3 weeks to recover from a mini tummy tuck, in contrast to the 2-4 weeks of its traditional counterpart.
The results of a mini tummy tuck procedure are permanent.
