Vaginal Relaxation Syndrome Treatment Procedure Details
What is Vaginal Relaxation Syndrome (VRS)?
Vaginal relaxation syndrome is a laxity or loss of tautness and firmness of the Introitus, or entrance to the vaginal canal and the laxity of the vaginal canal itself.
What are the symptoms of Vaginal Laxity, Vaginal Looseness and Vaginal Relaxation Syndrome?
The symptom of Vaginal Laxity is a generalized vaginal looseness of the vaginal canal and the Introitus, or vaginal opening. There can be less sensation, resistance and a lack of firmness or responsiveness of the vaginal canal during sexual intercourse and intimacy. This reduced sensation can result in a decrease or diminished satisfaction during intimacy and coitus.
What are the causes of Vaginal Laxity that may lead to vaginal tightening treatments?
There are multiple causes for vaginal looseness, the most common being peri and postmenopausal changes to the vagina. With decreasing estrogen, decreasing blood flow, loss of collagen and supportive elastic fibers in the vaginal lining, can lead to decreasing muscle tone and diminished muscle thickness and responsiveness.
Vaginal relaxation syndrome can also occur in younger ages following multiple vaginal births or a traumatic vaginal birth with or without medical intervention, such as episiotomy with unsuccessful repair, high-forceps delivery, or tears in the posterior wall of the vagina during childbirth. Vaginal Relaxation Syndrome or Vaginal Laxity can occur at any age, often following multiple childbirth or traumatic childbirth and then can get worse with age, with loss of protective effects of estrogen on the vaginal tissues.

When can Vaginal Relaxation Syndrome and Vaginal Laxity present?
Vaginal Relaxation Syndrome and Vaginal Laxity can commonly occur following childbirth and vaginal delivery, or peri or postmenopausal loss of estrogen and after the treatment of some female cancers such as breast cancer, ovarian and uterine cancer, where estrogen effects have been blocked.

How are these non surgical VRS treatments performed?
The SpaMedica VRS treatments are performed under local or topical anesthesia in the office and require less than an hour. Patients can return to work and activities immediately, and improvements in their vaginal looseness symptoms can occur over six weeks. A fractional CO2 probe is gently inserted into the Vaginal Canal. The Internal Probe is withdrawn in methodical increments and mucosal of the vaginal walls are treatments with fractional CO2 or Radiofrequency energy. The fractional Ablation results in a gentle remodeling and rejuvenation of the vaginal canal. This produces more tightness of the vaginal, with enhanced blood flow and lubrication of the lining.

What happens to the Vaginal Lining after Fractional CO2 or Fractional RF Laser Vaginal Tightening?
The fractional Laser CO2 or Radiofrequency device creates thousands of small thermal injuries to the lining and wall of the vaginal canal as it is slowly and gently withdrawn. Similar to fractional resurfacing of aged and wrinkled skin, laser and radiofrequency fractional resurfacing of the vaginal lining will results in thermal injuries that are virtually painless and will heal over 6 weeks with new and rejuvenated lining and a thicker, firmer more youthful vaginal wall with enhanced mucinous secretions.

Additional Labia Majora and Minora rejuvenation techniques such as Labial Majora augmentation or reduction and Labial Minora augmentation or reduction techniques can be performed to improve the aesthetic appearance of the aging vagina and Introitus.
