What is Vaginal Relaxation Syndrome?

Vaginal relaxation syndrome is a laxity or loss of tautness and firmness of the Introitus, or entrance to the vaginal canal and the laxity of the vaginal canal itself.

What are the symptoms of Vaginal Laxity, Vaginal Looseness and Vaginal Relaxation Syndrome?

The symptom of Vaginal Laxity is a generalized vaginal looseness of the vaginal canal and the Introitus, or vaginal opening.  There can be less sensation, resistance and a lack of firmness or responsiveness of the vaginal canal during sexual intercourse and intimacy.  This reduced sensation can result in a decrease or diminished satisfaction during intimacy and coitus.

What are the causes of Vaginal Laxity that may lead to vaginal tightening treatments?

There are multiple causes for vaginal looseness, the most common being peri and postmenopausal changes to the vagina.  With decreasing estrogen, decreasing blood flow, loss of collagen and supportive elastic fibers in the vaginal lining, can lead to decreasing muscle tone and diminished muscle thickness and responsiveness.

Vaginal relaxation syndrome can also occur in younger ages following multiple vaginal births or a traumatic vaginal birth with or without medical intervention, such as episiotomy with unsuccessful repair, high-forceps delivery, or tears in the posterior wall of the vagina during childbirth.  Vaginal Relaxation Syndrome or Vaginal Laxity can occur at any age, often following multiple childbirth or traumatic childbirth and then can get worse with age, with loss of protective effects of estrogen on the vaginal tissues.

When can Vaginal Relaxation Syndrome and Vaginal Laxity present?

Vaginal Relaxation Syndrome and Vaginal Laxity can commonly occur following childbirth and vaginal delivery, or peri or postmenopausal loss of estrogen an d after the treatment of some female cancers such as breast cancer, ovarian and uterine cancer, where estrogen effects have been blocked.

What are traditional treatments for Vaginal Relaxation Syndrome?

Toronto Vaginal Laxity patients present to SpaMedica Vaginal Rejuvenation and Vaginal Tightening program to explore their option for Non-surgical and surgical vaginal treatment options. Some of the more traditional SpaMedica non-surgical vaginal tightening treatments are focused on pelvic floor exercises such as Kegel exercises, pelvic massage. For more significant Vaginal Laxity, surgical intervention, such as a laser assisted Vaginoplasty providing vaginal tightening following the  surgical excision of excess lining and the tightening and repair of the muscles of the vaginal floor.

Surgical Vaginoplasty is relatively invasive with significant recovery, but for significant vaginal laxity, particularly for traumatic childbirth, this may be the only treatment available.

What are some of the modern high-tech non-surgical treatments for Vaginal Relaxation Syndrome and Vaginal Tightening?

Toronto vaginal tightening patients suffering symptoms of Vaginal Relaxation Syndrome and vaginal looseness present to SpaMedica for its industry leading and high-tech, comprehensive Female Health and Vaginal Wellness Cosmetic Gynaecology Program.  A thorough consultation with a SpaMedica certified gynaecologist and thorough examination of the vagina, vaginal canal and the cervix is performed by SpaMedica Gynaecologist, Dr Sasha Svystohyuk. SpaMedica is Canada’s leader in non-invasive/minimally-invasive tightening of lax vagina and vaginal canal, with patented techniques such as the V-Tite, the Mona Lisa Touch fractional CO2, the CORE Intima fractional CO2, the Fractora V radiofrequency, the FORMA V and ThermiRF and VA system allows the SpaMedica Female Health and Wellness Team many options to give you their Vaginal Laxity patients the best possible improvement in your vaginal tightening symptoms.  The V-Tite uses a coagulative bipolar radiofrequency energy device to provide simultaneous sub-mucosal tightening of the vaginal canal, as well as trans-mucosal firming improvements.  This can be combined with the MonaLisa Touch and the CORE Intima fractional CO2 devices and/or  the Fractora V to give you the most comprehensive non-surgical tightening of the vaginal canal and iIntroitus.  These strong, non invasive Vaginal Tightening technologies, can be combined with SpaMedica Vaginal tightening maintenance treatments using non-ablative fractional RF systems such as the FORMA V and the ThermiRF VA.

How are these non surgical Vaginal Tightening treatments performed?

The SpaMedica Vaginal Tightening treatments are performed under local or topical anesthesia in the office and require less than an hour.  Patients can return to work and activities immediately, and improvements in their vaginal looseness symptoms can occur over six weeks. A fractional CO2 probe is gently inserted into the Vaginal Canal. The Internal Probe is withdrawn in methodical increments and mucosal of the vaginal walls are treatments with fractional CO2 or Radiofrequency energy. The fractional Ablation results in a gentle remodeling and rejuvenation of the vaginal canal, producing more tightness of the vaginal, with enhanced blood flow and lubrication of the lining.

Over time there is thickening, tightening, moistening and rejuvenation of the vaginal and vaginal canal.

What happens to the Vaginal Lining after Fractional CO2 or Fractional RF Laser Vaginal Tightening?

The fractional Laser CO2 or Radiofrequency device creates thousands of small thermal injuries to the lining and wall of the vaginal canal as it is slowly and gently withdrawn. Similar to fractional resurfacing of aged and wrinkled skin, laser and radiofrequency fractional resurfacing of the vaginal lining will results in thermal injuries that are virtually painless and will heal over 6 weeks with new and rejuvenated lining and a thicker, firmer more youthful vaginal wall with enhanced mucinous secretions.
