Why fall is the perfect time for dermatological treatments
As the days get shorter and the air gets drier this fall, your skin starts losing some of its valuable moisture. But worry not, because the right fall skin care routine can help correct any damage caused by sun, saltwater, or chlorine, and help prepare your skin for colder months. That’s why fall is the ideal time to address any outstanding dermatology concerns or move forward with procedures that heal best away from the sun (hint: they all do!).
So now that the scent of pumpkin spice lattes is in the air, it may be time to learn a bit more about the following dermatology treatments:
Laser your wrinkles
We all age, but let’s face it, the sun can speed things up. If you had a sunburn or two this summer and now your skin needs a pick-me-up, know that laser treatments can improve everything from blotchiness and discolouration to wrinkles. Laser wrinkle reduction treatments can get to root causes, and the process is fast and effective, stimulating your body’s natural collagen to gradually replenish itself, filling in lines and creases for a more youthful look all-around!
Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP)
Commonly known as the “Vampire Lift” (when injected), or the “Vampire Facial” (when used topically), PRP is actually a lot safer than a vampire. The platelet-rich segment of your blood (integral to the repair of damaged vessels) is separated out and often combined with fractional laser treatments–a non-invasive procedure performed via micro needling or laser bam. The process creates inflammation that is then harnessed by the PRP to enhance your wound healing response, creating smoother contours and better tone.
Botox Injectable & dermal fillers
Botox Injectables and dermal filler treatments are both very popular, accounting for more than 9 million procedures in 2015. Both procedures use injections rather than surgery. While Botox Injectables can help minimize the appearance of lines and wrinkles caused by your facial expressions, dermal fillers add fullness to areas that have thinned due to aging, like the cheeks, lips, and mouth area. One study found that Botox Injectables and filler procedures are very safe, and that side effects (largely minor and temporary) occur in less than 1% of dermatology patients.
Acne scars begone
If acne is still an ongoing issue for you, Dr. Mulholland will recommend a pre-treatment program before beginning. Once complete, a combination of fractional radio frequency (RF), laser devices, blue light therapy, intense pulsed light (IPL) facials, and other measures will be used during treatment to reduce acne scars or other skin imperfections between 30% and 70%!
Schedule a consultation with Dr. Mulholland at the Toronto SpaMedica clinic to become better-acquainted with any of the above clinical dermatology procedures. We look forward to helping your seasonal transition go as smoothly as possible!
