Why mommy makeovers have become so popular

September 14, 2018

There’s no doubt that motherhood is an incredibly rewarding experience for many women. But, the long-lasting toll it can have on your body is undeniable. From fluctuating hormones to stretched-out skin to weight gain and unwanted hair, pregnancy is indeed a full body experience. There’s no shame in wanting to boost your confidence by taking action to restore your pre-pregnancy self again. Considering all that modern cosmetic surgery has made possible, it’s no wonder mommy makeovers are getting so popular.

What is a mommy makeover?

A mommy makeover is a careful curation of surgical and non-surgical procedures geared toward addressing all the most pregnancy-affected areas of your body. On the surgical side of things, treatments may include a tummy tuck to tighten your midsection and remove excess skin, liposuction for that stubborn post baby fat, skin tightening, breast augmentation, and/or a breast lift to firm and enhance your breasts post breastfeeding. Some women may additionally opt for vaginal rejuvenation. Depending on your needs, cellulite reduction treatments targeting the buttocks and thighs (surgical or non-surgical), may also be performed. Non-surgical elements of a mommy makeover can include the removal of unwanted hair and stretch mark reduction. The entire process generally takes three to four hours, but the results can last a lifetime.

Mommy makeover recovery

Mommy makeover recovery time is between one and two weeks. You may want to ensure you have someone around to help out while you are healing. Tummy tuck scars are not severe, but cannot be entirely avoided, which is why Dr. Mulholland offers complimentary laser scar reduction post surgery. Some tummy tuck pain, swelling, and bruising are expected. You will see Dr. Mulholland’s surgical team several times throughout your 1-3 week recovery to monitor the healing process and remove drains which have been installed to reduce swelling. While it’s advisable to get a tummy tuck after your childbearing years are behind you, if you should find yourself pregnant after a tummy tuck, it’s important to note it is generally safe, and many makeovers even retain their effects after childbirth.
