Belkyra: Get Rid of Your Double Chin Easily
It doesn’t matter if you’re slim or young, you can still have a double chin. It’s unfortunate, but hereditary factors do play a role. Sift through family photos or think about other family members—do many of them have double chins? If they do, that’s probably why you have a double chin as well. It’s genetics.
Genetics is one major factor, and so is age. We know that wrinkles can come with age. With age also comes loosening of the skin and muscle loss. When the muscles of your chin loosen up, the chances of developing a double chin increases.
If the look of your double chin irritates you, then be happy to know that there are ways to reduce or get rid of it all together. It’s called Belkyra and it doesn’t involve any surgery.
What is Belkyra?
The FDA and Health Canada has recently approved Belkyra to treat double chins (in the U.S, it’s called Kybella). Belkyra is an injectable procedure to reduce double chins. The injectable liquid disrupts the fat cells that cause the double chin.
How does Belkyra work exactly?
- Once the injection is inserted, the cell membrane of the fat cells causing the double chin are disrupted
- The fat cell contents leak into the surrounding subcutaneous space
- These contents aren’t harmful. The body naturally removes these free fatty acids and glycerol safely
- The released contents of the fat cell are taken back to the liver for natural processing or through the kidney for elimination
What should I expect before my Belkyra procedure?
Since this is a non-surgical procedure, your plastic surgeon won’t be making any incisions or using any devices. The procedure involves an injection of the chemical to give you your desired results. Before the injection, your skin can be anesthetized. For accuracy, an injection grid is placed on the area of your double chin. This way, small but accurate doses of Beklyra is evenly distributed to the areas of concern. You’ll be out of the clinic within 30 minutes
Before and after Belkyra treatments for double chins
Is it painful?
Patients can experience feelings similar to slight bruising in the treated area. Some patients may feel slight burning and discomfort. Swelling can last for 1-2 days, but it settles down over the course of several days. However, most patients can still head back to work and do regular activities after their treatment.
Can’t I just get liposuction to treat my double chin instead?
Yes, liposuction is a great method to treat double chins. However, a recovery time of 3-7 days is required and patients will experience discomfort and bruising. If you’re looking for a treatment that doesn’t require any surgery or recovery time, then Belkyra is the recommended option.
Who can’t get Belkyra?
- Patients with heart disease
- Patients with liver disease
- Patients with uncontrolled diabetes
- Patients who are pregnant
- Patients with an excess amount of lax skin
How much does Belkyra cost?
Belkyra is charged per treatment. Each treatment is spaced one month apart. In Canada, a Belkyra syringe ranges from $1000 to $1500. Depending on how much fat there is in the double chin area, prices and the number of treatments will vary.
You don’t have to feel self-conscious about your double chin anymore. There have been numerous and comprehensive studies on the effectiveness of Belkyra—over 20 clinical studies with more than 2,600 patients have been conducted on it. In these trials, many patients saw visible results after 2-4 treatments. And most of all, their happiness and confidence levels improved after treatments.
