Many microdermabrasion and skin peel treatments were developed and taught to other physicians by Toronto cosmetic plastic surgeon and founder of SpaMedica, Dr. Stephen Mulholland. The medical spa team at SpaMedica will ensure you receive the personal attention and care that is synonymous with the name SpaMedica and Dr. Mulholland.

What is a Crystal Peel Treatment?

The Crystal Peel microdermabrasion treatment is one of the most trusted gentle, non-invasive skin rejuvenation therapies available today. The SpaMedica Crystal Peel Medical Microdermabrasion uses a directed stream of micro-crystals, combined with vacuum to rejuvenate the skin. Different crystals, aluminum oxide, salt or diamond may be used to provide the micro abrasive particles. The SpaMedica Crystal Peel is a powerful but gentle anti-aging procedure that exfoliates, refreshes and renews your skin. It is an effective therapy that, when used alone, or in combination with cosmetic plastic surgery, FotoFacials, or medical home skin care, reduces the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, sun damage, brown spots, acne scars and textural skin imperfections.

Other forms of microdermabrasion such as Silk Peel Dermal Infusion, Salicylic Chemical Peel Microdermabrasion and SonoPeel, may also be recommended by our dermatology treatment team for the reduction of your stratum corneum. The resulting smooth stratum corneum is much more attractive, even and bright, with a luminous glow.

In addition to Crystal Peel, Silk Peel, Chemical Peel or SonoPeel microdermabrasion, our SpaMedica medical spa or dermatology specialists may add Blue Light to microdermabrasion when treating acne. Blue Light acts to stimulate special chemicals in your sebaceous glands, called protoporphyrins which attack and kill the bacteria in the sebaceous glands that can lead to acne. Blue Light therapy is painless and is repeated 2-3 times per week in an 8 week program. Blue Light therapy is combined with microdermabrasion to attack bacteria from the “outside in” and “inside out”. An additional special chemical, called Aminoleuvlinic Acid (ALA) or Levulan may be added to the skin to amplify the Blue Light’s ability to kill acne bacteria. ALA Levulan is a topical chemical painted on the skin 30 minuets before a blue light treatment and blocks an enzyme in the skin cells that dramatically increases the reactive protophorphryin level in the cells and hence increases the number of bacteria that can be killed. Your photodynamic ALA Levulan treatment may be combined with Silk Peel and/or FotoFacial.

Our SpaMedica dermatology specialists may combine FotoFacial RF Treatments together with your Crystal Peel, Silk Peel, SonoPeel or Chemical Peel Microdermabrasion to further enhance the results of a smoother complexion with diminished fine lines, age spots, brown spots, redness and textural irregularities.

The FotoFacial RF treatment is an intense pulsed light based and RF skin enhancement treatment that, when used alone or in combination with the Microdermabrasion can greatly enhance peel treatment results. The FotoFacial RF (Radiofrequency) combines Intense Pulsed light (IPL) together with Radiofrequency (RF) energy to treat fine lines, brown discolorations, age spots, redness and textural irregularities. The IPL or Intense Pulsed light is attracted to and heats red and brown discoloration in the skin, eyrthema, rosacea and broken capillaries. By heating the red discoloration, the IPL or FotoFacial RF is able to close off the excess blood vessels, reducing red discoloration, pores and wrinkles. Your RF FotoFacial treatment will tighten skin and lessen pores giving you a more youthful appearance.

Your SpaMedica in-office treatment programs will be supported by a medical grade Home Skin Care Plan which will enhance your treatment results. Home based medical skin care products will keep your skin looking as nice a possible. SpaMedica dermatology specialists will help formulate the best possible skin care program for your skin type.
