Finally, for some Toronto Vaginal laxity and Vulvo-vaginal atrophy women, the goal is to enhance all the form and function of the Vulvo-vaginal region, including genital urinary incompetence, normal vaginal mucosa secretions with elimination of symptoms of vaginal atrophy, and to enhance sexual functioning and pleasurable intimacy. In addition to the functional improvements listed above, the SpaMedica Female Wellness and Vaginal Health Program includes options to improve, refine or enhance the aesthetic appearance of the Vulvo-Vaginal region. This includes the appearance of the Mons pubis, clitoral hood, Labia Minora and Majora. Aesthetic enhancements in shape, function, form, pigmentation and overall aesthetic integration can be readily achieved with the latest technology and techniques.
What kind of Female Wellness, Laser Vaginal Rejuvenation and/or Laser Vaginal Tightening Programs and Treatments does SpaMedica offer?
SpaMedica offers the latest in minimally-invasive, laser and radiofrequency energy-based treatments for genitourinary symptoms of menopause (GSM), which is also known as Vulvo-Vaginal atrophy. These signs and symptoms of Vulvo-vaginal atrophy are characterized by thinning, dryness and inflammation of the vagina, resulting from loss of the estrogen effect associated with peri and postmenopausal aging; as well as post-chemotherapy, especially following Tamoxifen in the treatment of breast cancer or other genitourinary cancers such as ovarian carcinoma, or uterine carcinoma.
SpaMedica in Toronto also offers minimally-invasive, non-surgical laser and radiofrequency rejuvenation to vaginal relaxation syndrome (VRS) patients. These laser vaginal tightening procedures are non surgical and highly successful. In providing a simple non-surgical vaginal tightening solution. Vaginal relaxation syndrome is characterized by vaginal laxity and looseness, both of the outer aspects of the vagina or the Introitus and the vaginal canal itself, typically resulting from childbirth or aging.
Finally, SpaMedica also offers rejuvenation and improvement in signs and symptoms of vulvar and introital aging. Some of the aesthetic aging concerns of the vagina and perineal area include changes in pigmentation – either hyper or hypopigmentation; deflation of the external genitalia with laxity, descent and lack of support of the Labia Majora and Minora. Dyschromia and hyperpigmentation of the perineal region, labial areas and perianal skin can also be an aesthetic concern and can be corrected or improved with SpaMedica’s high tech lasers. Enlargement or collection of fat with excessive hair in the Mons Pubis, or vaginal region can also be treated with SpaMedica’s Female Wellness and Vaginal rejuvenation lasers.
Enlargement, overgrowth of the Labia Minora, labial hypertrophy, can cause functional symptoms and pain during athletic activities and during intimacy, Labial hypertrophy and enlargement can be treated with labia-reduction procedures. Age-related loss of volume of the Labia Majora and Minora is a common complaint and can be treated at SpaMedica with Labia Majora and Minora augmentation techniques using fat grafting or an injection of a hyaluronic acid sugar filler, such as Juvederm or Restylane.
Heightened neurovascular stimulation of the anterior vaginal wall, or G-spot, can be achieved with soft tissue filler injections such as Juvederm or Restylane. This procedure is called the SpaMedica G- Shot.
In more advanced cases of Vaginal laxity and volume loss, where minimally-invasive laser or radiofrequency fractural resurfacing for vaginal laxity does not improve, minimally-invasive surgical vaginal tightening and Perineoplasty can be performed, especially following episiotomy surgically-assisted vaginal births.
All these clinical syndromes and aesthetic concerns are part of the procedural offerings by Dr. Sasha and the highly-trained SpaMedica Female Wellness and Vaginal Health and Rejuvenation Program and team in Toronto.
What is the Female genital and Vulvo-Vaginal anatomy?
The diagram below outlines the side view and frontal view of the genitourinary anatomy that can affected by the aging process, peri-menopausal changes or Vulvo-vaginal trauma during vaginal childbirth.
Figure 2. Vulvo-Vaginal Anatomy
The Mons pubis overlies the pubic bone and may be subject to aesthetically unappealing collections of fat during the aging process. Additionally, the Mons pubic hair can be excessive and cause aesthetic concern or even functional discomfort during intimacy. The Labia Majora are the soft tissue folds outside and enveloping the Labia Minora and may be enlarged or experience loss of volume during the aging process obscuring the Introitus or entry into the vaginal canal. The Labia Minora may be atrophic, small and wrinkled and deflate with age, or may be very enlarged and hypertrophic causing signs and symptoms of pain, friction and irritation during intimacy. Aesthetic and functional conditions of the clitoral hood and clitoris are uncommon and need specialized care and attention, if present.
The vaginal canal has a specialized mucosal lining and sub-mucosal tissue, or cells under the lining that secrete mucous and maintain a moist environment to ensure comfort, minimizing dryness and pleasure during intimacy. Aging can change the ability of the lining of the vaginal mucosa to secrete mucous, causing dryness, pain and irritation, as well as lack of muscular control may lead to genitourinary symptoms, such as incontinence and stress incontinence.
Figure 3. Side View of the female genitourinary tract
The perineum is the soft tissue region, including the floor of the vagina back to the entrance to the rectum. The perineum area may be traumatized, most commonly surgically, during an episiotomy in vaginal childbirth, or just child birth itself which may result in excessive laxity and may be subject to minimally-invasive laser excision and surgical repair called a Perinoplasty. Functional abnormalities such as abnormal connections between the rectum and the vagina, or herniation of the uterus, are more functional problems that would require more reconstructive surgery and are not offered by the SpaMedica Female Health and Wellness Program. However, these concerns can discussed with Dr. Sasha Svystonyuk during your thorough SpaMedica gynecological examination in our Toronto clinic.
