How Long Does it Take to Recover From Fractora?

Recovery from a Fractora session is extremely short, with most patients able to resume normal activities immediately after. Mild redness and inflammation are usually apparent but will normally subside within 24 hours. More aggressive Fractora settings may require 5-7 days off for recovery.

How Long Does Fractora Take?

Fractora is a treatment that does not take long to perform. The numbing cream preparation will take up to 15 minutes and the treatment itself will last around 30 minutes, depending on the coverage area to be treated. Patients should expect a single Fractora treatment to take 1 hour of their time.

What is Fractora?

Nobody wants to face the signs of aging. Whether it’s the crow’s feet around the eyes, wrinkles on the neck or smile lines by the lips, it’s impossible to go through life without the passing years being on full display.

Thankfully there’s no longer a reason for you to live with an aged appearance that goes against your youthful spirit.

Introducing Fractora™, a non-invasive skin treatment that uses fractional radiofrequency technology to minimize even the deepest aging damage and restores your youthful, beautiful skin. The most commonly treated areas are the eyelids, smile lines, forehead, cheeks, mouth, and neck. The Fractora handpiece sends 24 silicone needles into the depths of the skin (dermis). The tip of each Fractora needle is uncoated and releases radiofrequency (RF) energy deep into the dermis. This thermal RF injury is fractional (leaves some skin uninjured) and causes a break down of surrounding tissue which heals with new collagen and elastic from undamaged adjacent skin.

Who is a Fractora Candidate?

The ideal candidate for Fractora is a man or woman in good health. The person will fall into one of two categories: those aged 30-60 who want to improve visible signs of aging and younger patients who have active acne, acne scarring or skin irregularities.

Different Types of Fractora Treatments

There are different types of Fractora needle tips that we use at SpaMedica and treatments are, however, divided into 3 categories: light, moderate, and deep.

Light treatments
Use a low energy setting with shorter Fractora needles and usually require 6-8 treatments to meet desired results.

Moderate treatments
Use a higher energy setting and require 4-6 treatments.

Deep treatments
Use powerful energy settings and longer needle tips which only require 1-3 treatments.

The type of treatment used will depend based on the coverage area and severity of wrinkle/skin irregularities.

Non-Surgical Fractora Alternatives

Chemical peels, Microdermabrasion and Microneedling without RF has less downtime but provides far less texture improvement, less wrinkle reduction and far less tissue tightening.

How is Fractora Performed?

During your initial consultation, your areas of concern, skin type and tone will be assessed. You will go over expected results and possible outcomes. You will have photographs taken of the areas to be treated to assess your before and after results.

On the day of the treatment itself, a numbing agent or oral medication will be applied to ease any discomfort. The device that delivers radiofrequency energy through micro pins will then be carefully traced over the target areas.

The numbing and treatment will take about 1-hour total for a single area. After the treatment, your provider will give you any aftercare instructions you will need to follow.

The physician Fractora treatments use both superficial and deeper, coated Fractora tips, use much stronger energy, and may combine other resurfacing devices, like Fractional CO2. The results for wrinkle reduction and laxity are much more significant and are achieved in a single session, but the downtime is approximately 7 days.

How to Prepare for Fractora

Pre-treatment instructions are there to decrease the likelihood of complications and speed up recovery time.

Patients should avoid sun exposure and using tanning beds for at least 4 weeks prior to their Fractora treatment. Anti-inflammatory drugs and supplements that can increase bleeding should also be stopped with your doctor’s permission and alcohol should not be consumed within 24 hours of the procedure. Instead, consume plenty of water prior to and after your treatment – hydrated skin heals faster!

What to Expect After a Fractora

Patients will notice an improvement to their facial appearance immediately after the treatment. The face might feel tight but this, along with the minimal swelling and redness, will subside after 24 hours. In the days that follow, patients should moisturize the treatment area 2-3 times a day and avoid excessive direct sun exposure. Little bumps are often palpable from the fractional needle insertions, but they disappear over days, depending upon the settings and as they fill in with new collagen, elastin and ground substances (newer, younger skin).

Fractora Recovery & Timeline

Day 1: Redness will subside after 24 hours and makeup can be worn after lighter treatments.

Week 1-3: Swelling can stay for up to 1 week. If stronger settings are used, redness takes more time to subside and make up can be worn after 1 week.

Week 2-6: Significant improvement is noticed

Month 3-6: Since Fractora stimulates collagen regrowth, results can continue to develop during this time.

Sunscreen to be worn throughout the recovery period.

Best Procedures Paired with Fractora

Fractora is often combined with other non-invasive energy devices like IPL photorejuvenation for brown spot and blood vessel reduction and bulk heating, non-ablative radiofrequency devices, like the Forma, Venus Freeze and/or Excilis for additional tightening. Botox injection and dermal fillers (Juvederm, Revanesse and Restylane) are also used in combination.

Fractora FAQ

How Painful Is It to Get a Fractora Procedure?

The mild to moderate discomfort that comes with a Fractora treatment is alleviated by applying a numbing agent to the target area prior to treatment and the use of laughing gas (Pronox, Nitrous Oxide). Our team may also offer oral medication to ease the pain in certain scenarios.

When Can I Start Wearing Make-Up?

A Fractora treatment comes with minimal downtime, meaning patients can go about their day-to-day activities straight after the procedure. To benefit from the best effects of Fractora, patients should wait 24 – 48 hours after the treatment before applying make-up.

How Long Do Fractora Treatments Last?

Fractora stimulates collagen production to rejuvenate the skin, meaning results are long-term. As you would expect, however, the aging process will continue after the treatment and patients require additional treatments in the future, usually 1-2 per year.
