What Is miraDry?

miraDry is approved for treating excessive underarm sweating. The miraDry System uses localized microwave energy that destroys sweat glands, providing long-lasting results.

Do you sweat excessively under your arms? Do you find yourself applying deodorant several times a day and need to keep a fresh change of clothes nearby just in case? Are you afraid to wear certain clothes because they will show your sweat stains? Are you tired of spending thousands of dollars every year on botox for your sweating? If so, miraDry may be right for you.

Who Is a miraDry Candidate?

Ideal candidates are women and men who:

  • Have excessive underarm sweat.
  • Are embarrassed by sweat stains.
  • Avoid clothing that doesn’t show sweat easily.
  • Are tired of spending thousands of dollars every year on botox to treat sweat issues.
  • Don’t respond well to antiperspirants.

If you are not a good candidate for miraDry, consider another non-surgical treatment at SpaMedica.

4 Benefits of miraDry

Stop Wearing Deodorant/Antiperspirants
miraDry eliminates the sweat glands, so you won’t have to wear deodorant anymore. This will save you money and eliminate deodorant stains on your favourite clothing.

Increased Self-Confidence
If you sweat excessively, your self-confidence may be affected. You’ll feel more confident after a miraDry treatment as your underarm sweating problem will no longer be an issue.

Feel Clean, Smell Clean and Never Shave Again
It’s hard to feel clean if you’re dripping in underarm sweat. You’ll feel clean the entire day after undergoing miraDry treatments. miraDry also kills the hair follicles of your underarm, so you can reduce the need to shave. miraDry also destroys the sebaceous glands, so underarm body odour, or “B.O”, will be gone.

Immediate and Long-Lasting Results
You’ll enjoy the results of miraDry immediately after the procedure. The results will be long-lasting and may even be permanent.

miraDry Risks

miraDry is a non-invasive treatment, and complications are rare. Still, patients should review the possible risks before undergoing miraDry at SpaMedica.

Underarm Swelling and Redness
Some patients experience underarm swelling and redness after undergoing miraDry treatments. This normally goes away after a few weeks.

Soreness
Some soreness is normal after a miraDry treatment. While it typically subsides within several days, others report feeling sore for several weeks.

Numbness and Tingling
It is possible to experience numbness and tingling after a miraDry treatment. This normally resolves itself within five weeks.

Permanent Nerve Injury
While extremely rare, it is possible to experience nerve injury. Your Consultant will discuss this risk in detail during the consultation.

Why Choose SpaMedica for miraDry?

SpaMedica is a leader in non-invasive treatments, including miraDry. SpaMedica has performed non-invasive and surgical procedures for more than two decades, and our perfectionism ensures that patients are pleased after their procedures.

Non-Surgical miraDry Alternatives

Other energy-based technologies that can be inserted in the underarm skin under local anesthesia and used to heat and destroy a percentage of sweat glands are AccuTite, FaceTite, and Smartlipo. They all use under the skin heating (either RF or laser) to target and damage the sweat glands and can reduce sweating 50-75%. However, miraDry is external contact and non-invasive and has a higher permanent reduction success rate.

Botox injectable to the underarm can reduce sweating by 80% or more and this can last 8-12 months. The problem with Botox injectable to control underarm sweating is that it must be repeated at least once a year, and this can get expensive.

How Is miraDry Performed at SpaMedica?

Dr. Mulholland performs or oversees miraDry procedures at SpaMedica. To begin, the doctor uses local anesthesia to numb the treatment area. The treatment area is marked, and the doctor passes the miraDry system over the underarm skin to eliminate the sweat glands.

How to Prepare for miraDry

Patients must:

  • Shave the underarms 4-6 days before the procedure.
  • Avoid wearing deodorant one day before the procedure.

What to Expect After miraDry

Patients notice the results of miraDry immediately. However, most people need to undergo 2 treatments for optimal results. These treatments are spaced 3 months apart.

miraDry Recovery and Timeline

Recovery from miraDry is fast and easy. Patients are sent home on the day of the procedure. It is normal to experience some swelling, soreness, and redness for the first 1-3 days. Patients can take over-the-counter medications and apply ice to the treatment area for the first week to reduce discomfort.

Patients should keep the treatment area clean and avoid deodorant for at least 3 days. Most patients choose to forgo deodorant altogether after the treatment, though. Patients should also wear loose-fitting clothing for a few days to avoid irritating the treatment site.

Some people experience numbness or tingling. This normally goes away within 5 weeks.

Best Procedures Paired with miraDry

Laser hair removal to other body parts, Botox injectable and soft tissue dermal fillers go well with miraDry treatments.
