NON-SURGICAL FACELIFT

What is a non-surgical facelift?

Dr. Mulholland has been an innovator and pioneer in the development of non-surgical facelift techniques.  A non-surgical facelift is the utilization of laser and energy devices to elevate and reposition the brow, cheek, jowl and neck without a scalpel or excisional techniques.  A non-surgical facelift involves a series of treatments using fractional laser devices for superficial textural wrinkle reduction and non-ablative RF heating devices for tightening and repositioning of the facial tissues.  Additionally, the muscles of the facial elevation are stimulated and treated with electrical mild facial therapy to provide additional soft tissue support.  The non-surgical facelift techniques are very reproducible and although they don’t replicate what you can achieve with a surgical facelift procedure, tremendous tightening and rejuvenation can occur without the risk of more open surgical intervention.

How is a non-surgical facelift performed?

Toronto non-surgical facelift patients presenting with droopiness and sagginess of the brow, cheek, jowl and neck undergo a series of treatments once weekly for six sessions.  In each session, the multiple layers of skin laxity and aging are treated with multiple laser and energy devices, many of which Dr. Mulholland has had a significant hand in development and implementation.  The first layer treated is the superficial layer.  Discolourations such as age spots, photo damage and brown spots are treated with photo facial intense pulsed light treatment, which will help remove age spots, broken capillaries and brown discolouration which adds to an aged appearance to the face.  Following intense pulsed light photo facial treatment, fractional laser and radiofrequency resurfacing devices are then used to tighten the superficial layer of your skin, called the dermis, which improves lines, wrinkles, macro pores in the T zone and superficial skin laxity.  The final application treatment is with radiofrequency electrical current devices.  These radiofrequency electrical current devices provide a gentle bulk heating of the entire dermis and subcutaneous tissue, heating the tissue to the desired temperature and controlling that temperature for approximately 30 minutes.  The controlled bulk heating of the soft tissue of the brow, cheek, jowl and neck realigns old collagen and stimulates new collagen, ground substances and elastin so that you achieve a lifted appearance of the face.

This combined laser, light and energy system program had been developed and pioneered by Dr. Mulholland and this SpaMedica non-surgical facelift is very popular for Toronto facelift patients who are seeking to have a non-surgical experience, but achieve a noticeable elevation improvement in the position of their droopy soft tissue.  Some patients combine the laser energy devices for elevation, position and tightening of skin with soft tissue fillers to improve the deflation associated with facial aging.  Facial aging is characterized by the three Ds  of growing old – deflation, descent and deterioration.  A combination of intense pulsed light photo facial, fraction laser and radiofrequency resurfacing and painless bulk heating, non-ablative radiofrequency tightening, with or without soft tissue injectable fillers, achieves a significant intervention in the descent that occurs with aging.  Deterioration is also treated by the fractional lasers and intense pulsed light photo-rejuvenation and an addition of Botox® Injectables can be added to help protect the results of your non-surgical facelift.  Soft tissue fillers will also be added to your non-surgical facelift program if you have significant deflation as part of your 3D aging and the use of microcannula Voluma can also be added to your non-surgical facelift program for complete 3D therapy.

Who is a candidate for a non-surgical facelift?

Non-surgical facelift candidates are those individuals who have droopiness and laxity of the soft tissues of their neck, jowl, face, eyes and brow and desire an elevation and lift effect without the risk of a more surgical procedure.  Good candidates are medically well with no skin diseases and have realistic expectations about the degree of improvement that can be achieved.

What kind of anaesthetic is used for a non-surgical facelift?

Toronto non-surgical facelift patients have all fo these multiple applicator treatments performed on the same day under a topical local anaesthetic cream and an air chiller device.  There is no need for additional infiltrative local anaesthesia and most patients find this procedure very comfortable.

Is the non-surgical facelift painful?

The non-surgical facelift technique with multiple energy, laser and radiofrequency devices is very comfortable and tolerable.  Like any laser procedure, there may be a mild degree of discomfort. Usually this is well-masked by a topical anaesthetic cream and a localized air cooler device.

How long does the non-surgical facelift program take?

Toronto non-surgical facelift patients visit SpaMedica once a week for six weeks.  Each week, multiple applicator treatments are performed and these treatments take approximately one hour to one hour and 15 minute to complete.  There may be a slight degree of redness and swelling, but most patients can return to work immediately after the treatment.  Towards the middle of the program, the Botox® Injectables and soft tissue fillers, if required as part of your 3D non-surgical therapeutic program, will be added.

How long is the recovery following my non-surgical facelift procedure?

All the laser and energy devices selected by Dr. Mulholland and implemented in the SpaMedica non-surgical facelift program have minimal, if any, down time.  The intense pulsed light photo facial may result in darkening of the brow and discolouration which subsequently flakes off.  The fractional and laser radiofrequency devices may create some redness and swelling that usually subside in several days, but most patients can return to work the following day with the excuse that they had some sun damage or pre-cancers treated by their dermatologist with a laser system.

What will I look like after my non-surgical facelift?

After each treatment, there will be some swelling and redness which generally subsides by the next day and most patients can return to work looking reasonably normal in makeup.  At the completion of your SpaMedica non-surgical facelift program, you can expect to have tightening and elevation of the tissues of the brow, cheek, eye region, jowl and neck, with smoothening of the texture, lessening of wrinkles, diminishment of brown, aging discolouration and broken capillaries.

What kind of results can I expect following my non-surgical facelift?

Most patients can expect to look between three and seven years younger following their combination therapeutic non-surgical facelift program.  Depending upon the degree of aging changes in the 3D deflation, descent and deterioration complex of the patient and the chronological age of the patient, results can be very noticeable to quite profound.  Although the before-and-after results generally look undeniably more youthful and tighter and firmer, the non-surgical facelift results do not replicate what can be achieved with open facelift surgery, but can certainly result in the average patient looking, with average facial aging in their 40s, 50s or 60s, looking five years younger.  The benefits, of course, of the non-surgical facelift program for Toronto non-surgical facelift patients is that there is very little, if any, risk to the procedure.  There are no scars and extensive recover associated with more open facelift procedures.

What are Toronto non-surgical facelift patients saying about their SpaMedica non-surgical facelift?

Most patients who come to SpaMedica have done their research and understand that at SpaMedica they’re getting the most comprehensive multiple laser energy device, high-tech, non-surgical facelift program available.  Toronto non-surgical facelift patients understand they’re getting a significant facial elevation, restoration and rejuvenation but without the risks of more surgical procedures and without the recovery, down side and scars.  Most patients are extremely happy with the results of their procedure and Dr. Mulholland has performed this non-surgical facelift procedure on multiple television shows.  The results of these patients can be seen on the TV video on the non-surgical facelift content page.

How long will the results last of my non-surgical facelift?

The results of your non-surgical facelift with 3D therapy for the deflation, descent and deterioration can be quite long-lasting, but maintenance is generally recommended to perpetuate the effects of the non-surgical facelift.  In general, patients will present for a single, multiple-applicator maintenance session once very three to four months.  Three to four times a year can help maintain a three-to-seven year younger non-surgical facelift appearance for five or more years.  In general, additional therapeutic benefit is achieved by the use of Botox® Injection for strong depressive activity in the face and, as well, this Botox® Injections should be maintained twice yearly, with restoration of volume for the deflation using Juvéderm® Voluma™ or long-lasting soft tissue fillers, using a microcannula technique approximately once a year.

Is there any maintenance required for my non-surgical facelift?

Part of the understanding in entering into a SpaMedica non-surgical facelift program is that, just like surgery, once you achieve a pleasing facial rejuvenation in a non-surgical facelift effect, that ongoing maintenance will be required.  The ongoing maintenance is relatively simple.  It involves the multiple-applicator approach with intense pulsed light photo facial, fractional laser and radiofrequency resurfacing and non-ablative RF tightening single treatments once every three months, or four times a year.  If Botox® Injectables and volumization with soft tissue fillers is part of your non-surgical facelift program, the Botox® Injections should be performed once every four to six months and the soft tissue filler once yearly.  This simple maintenance program is not only affordable, but helps protect your five-to-seven year facial rejuvenation, non-surgical facelift effect for many years.

The concept of protecting your investment extends not only to protecting facelift surgical results with non-surgical treatments, but also protecting your non-surgical facelift results with ongoing non-surgical maintenance treatments.

How much will my SpaMedica non-surgical facelift cost?

The combined non-surgical facelift program will generally cost $3,000 to $5,000, depending on the addition of Botox® Injectables and soft-tissue fillers to your laser and energy device treatments.  This is approximately one-third to one-half the cost of a more open facelift procedure and generally can achieve significant facial rejuvenation as a result.
