Understanding Lip Fillers: What to Expect Before and After at SpaMedica

is lip filler permanent

Before getting lip fillers, it’s important to be well-informed about what to expect before and after the procedure. For example, a common concern is, “Is lip filler permanent?” and the answer is no.

This treatment involves injecting a dermal filler into your lips, and while the results are temporary, they can be very effective.

At SpaMedica, we take great pride in our commitment to providing you with the highest level of care. Our team of doctors and nurses undergo monthly training and webinars to stay current on the latest facial anatomy techniques. With years of experience and a deep understanding of facial anatomy, we offer customized treatment plans tailored to your individual needs.

In this post, you’ll learn about lip fillers’ cost and quality balance, realistic timelines, and potential side effects to help you make an informed decision. You’ll also get essential aftercare tips.

Let’s dive in.

What to Know Before Getting Lip Fillers

Lip Fillers in Toronto: Before & After

The first step is a consultation with our qualified providers. This is crucial as it gives you an opportunity to openly discuss your expectations, goals, and any inquiries you may have. With you, we will determine the most suitable approach tailored to your unique facial features to ensure a successful and gratifying lip filler experience.

The pricing of lip fillers can vary based on factors such as the type of filler and the number of syringes required. While you should consider your budget, it’s equally important to prioritize quality over cost to ensure a superior result and safer treatment experience.

While some individuals may experience mild discomfort or pain during the procedure, we prioritize pain management to minimize any potential discomfort. We offer topical numbing cream, as needed, to enhance your comfort during the treatment. The fillers also have the anesthetic Lidocaine in them.

During your consultation, we will thoroughly assess your medical history and inform you of any potential risks or complications associated with lip fillers. Common side effects like redness at the injection site, mild swelling, and temporary discomfort are typically short-lived and resolve swiftly.

Having realistic expectations regarding the timeline for achieving desired results is also important. While individual responses may vary, lip fillers generally last between 6 to 12 months.

Typically, our treatments are scheduled in time slots of 20 to 30 minutes. This allocation allows ample time for obtaining consent, applying numbing medication as necessary, and capturing photos to monitor progress throughout the procedure.

What to Know After Getting Lip Fillers

Cheers to your plumper, beautiful lips!

Aftercare instructions are as follows:

  • Sleep on elevated pillows, if possible, to allow the filler to settle.
  • You may restart makeup and topical skincare the next day after treatment.
  • Any swelling and bruising will resolve in 7 to 10 days.
  • Avoid strenuous exercise for 24 hours.
  • Avoid extensive sun or heat for 72 hours.
  • Avoid non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs, e.g. ibuprofen, Advil, Aleve, Motrin) for the first 5 days.
  • Avoid smoking and alcohol consumption for at least 72 hours after the treatment. Alcohol causes dehydration and increases the risk of swelling and bruising. Smoking reduces the longevity of the filler material.
  • Avoid the following for the first 2 weeks: facials, massage (including body ones), vaccinations and dental work.

Don’t miss your follow-up appointments to ensure a longer-lasting outcome. Don’t hesitate to contact your treatment provider if you have any other concerns or experience any complications.

Expect your results to gradually diminish over time as lip fillers aren’t permanent.
