How is a LightSheer Diode Laser Treatment Performed by Dr. Mulholland?

The LightSheer® is fast, comfortable and effective and is one of the multiple wavelengths of light that will be applied during your combination SpaMedica laser hair removal program.

Most patients describe the feeling of the laser treatment as a mild pinch, similar to the feeling of being snapped with a rubber band. In most cases, the sensation goes away almost instantly.

How to Prepare for a LightSheer Diode Laser

You can prepare for a LightSheer Diode Laser treatment by:

  • Avoiding UV Light Exposure
  • Refrain from using tanning beds for at least 4 to 8 weeks before you begin your series of treatments.
  • Avoid other forms of hair removal treatments (including tweezing, waxing, bleaching or threading) for at least 4 to 8 weeks.
  • Avoid topical skin lotions on the day of treatment.
  • Shave the area the night before treatment.

What to Expect After a LightSheer Diode Laser Appointment

After your appointment, you may notice raised hair follicles in and around the treated area. If there is any discomfort, you may use a cold compress. You may see that your hair may appear to grow after the treatment, but they are, in fact, dead and falling out of their follicles. This sensation can last up to three weeks.

For those hair follicles that are still standing after your treatment, a maintenance program will be required. If the hair follicle is not destroyed, the sleeping phase is significantly prolonged, the growth cycles are synchronized, and the hair shafts are smaller and lighter.

We welcome all of our patients to join our SpaMedica laser hair removal club when you are done with your LightSheer laser or combined laser hair removal program to receive affordable maintenance treatments every 3-4 months.

LightSheer Diode Laser FAQ

How Painful is it to Get a LightSheer Diode Laser Hair Removal?

At SpaMedica, we utilize a dynamic cooling, cryogen spray, topical anesthetic cream and even Nitrous oxide (laughing gas) to make your laser hair removal program both comfortable and enjoyable.

How Many Treatments Are Generally Required?

We recommend a series of 5-7 LightSheer Diode Laser treatments to ensure the most permanent hair reduction.

How Long Will the Results Last?

Hair follicles and bulges that are targeted and damaged by the LightSheer laser are eliminated permanently and will not regrow. The average percentage of hair that can be forever destroyed ranges between 50-80%.

Why Is It Not Advised to Be Tanned Before Treatment?

A tan is produced by developing extra melanin pigment in the skin due to UV radiation. The laser light is absorbed by melanin, whether it is in the hair or the skin – meaning that tanned skin will absorb more energy from the laser, resulting in a higher risk of side effects.

To have the most effective and safe treatment, you shouldn’t have a tan (be it from a tanning bed or the sun) before your appointment.
