SpaMedica’s Laser Tattoo Removal Machines

April 13, 2017

In this blog we discuss the different machines that are used in our laser tattoo removal Toronto treatment program.

Laser Tattoo Removal Treatment at SpaMedica

At SpaMedica we primarily use the PicoSure laser for all laser tattoo removal treatments we perform. What separates SpaMedica and other laser tattoo removal clinics in Toronto is that we use adjunctive lasers to ensure the best possible removal of your tattoo. Other clinics will use just one or two lasers to remove the tattoo. This is not the most effective way to treat and remove tattoos. Certain colours can be resistant and/or difficult to treat. These tattoos need to be treated by alternative lasers pulses with different settings to be effectively removed. This is why SpaMedica has one of the most extensive collections of lasers in Toronto and Canada.

Laser Tattoo Removal Machines Used by SpaMedica

Below we list and explain the family of Laser tattoo removal devices that we use to treat our laser tattoo removal patients.

PicoSure™ 755nm

The PicoSure laser, developed by Cynosure, is a revolutionary laser in tattoo removal due to its short pulse duration. Traditional laser tattoo removal devices’ are measured in nanoseconds (billionth of a second) where as the Picosure laser is measured in picoseconds (trillionth of a second).

The shorter pulse duration means its light energy interacts with the tattoo particles in an almost purely photomechanical or acoustic fashion. An acoustic photomechanical reaction is like a shockwave that shatters the pigment of the tattoo, regardless of the colour of that pigment, with little photothermal effects (heating of the skin). The significantly shorter pulse duration means less heat is created on the skin (reducing the chance of lightening the skin) and fewer treatments are required for the same or better results than nanosecond laser produce. The PicoSure is extremely effective on all colours including Black, Green, Blue, Yellow, Purple, Orange, Red, Yellow and white tattoo ink.

Revlite™ 1064nm, 650nm, 585nm and 532nm

The RevLite laser tattoo removal machine is a state-of-the-art, nanosecond pulse duration laser tattoo removal machine. The RevLite laser is the most effective and well-known of the nanosecond pulse laser tattoo removal machines.  The RevLite® comes with four separate wavelengths of light for optimal removal of multi-coloured tattoos.  At SpaMedica, we will often deploy both the PicoSure™ and the Revlite laser for resistant tattoo ink particles, if required.  This laser is effective for removing Black, Green, Purple, Blue, Red, Yellow and Orange tattoo ink.

Affinity 1064nm and 532nm  and Accolade 775nm

The Affinity tattoo removal laser is a 1064-nanometer, Nd:YAG and 532-nanometer nanosecond pulsed laser.

The Accolade Alexandrite laser tattoo removal is a dedicated 755nm, Alexandrite nanosecond laser.

Both lasers are used in the rare instance that the PicoSure laser cannot totally remove the tattoo pigments. Both lasers are effective treating dark black, dark green, as well as red, yellow and orange tattoo pigments.

Fractional CO2

The fractional ablation laser that is useful for treating previously treated tattoos where some stubborn, faded residual ink is still present.  The fractional ablation laser is mainly used for wrinkle and acne scar reduction, but can also be used to successfully remove partially faded tattoos.

Fractional Radiofrequency (RF) ablation:

Our final laser that we use for laser tattoo removal is the Fractional RF ablative device also known as Fractora.  Like the Fractional CO2, the RF ablation laser can be used to remove already treated tattoos which have become lightened.  The advantage of using the Fractional RF system is that the epidermal skin over the tattoo may not get damaged, but the tattoo ink particles can be selectively targeted and treated.
