How Much Do Cheek Implants Cost?

The cost of cheek implants starts at $3,999 for soft tissue fillers, $5,999 for fat grafting, and $7,999 for actual cheek implants – cost dependent upon size.

How Long Does it Take to Recover From Cheek Implants?

There will be mild to modest bruising and swelling for a few days after the procedure. We recommend patients plan on taking 1-3 days off from work to recover.

How Long Does a Cheek Implant Take?

When cheek implants are inserted, the procedure takes approximately 2 hours. When dermal fillers are used to augment the cheeks, the injection procedure takes 15 minutes.

What are Cheek Implants?

Cheek implants, or cheek augmentation, involves increasing the insertion of solid, preformed, smooth shaped cheek implants to improve the volume of the midface to more aesthetically pleasing proportions. The procedure can be accomplished by moving the bones forward or with artificial firm implants that are surgically implanted on the bone, or with soft injectable gel or micro fat grafts.

The most skilled shaping techniques involve long-lasting, safe, reversible injectable gels or fat grafting to create optimal cheek and chin balance. Soft tissue fillers can be tailored and contoured to the specific needs of the facial proportions, where solid implants have limited sizes and versatility.

Who is a Cheek Implants Candidate?

Full and defined cheekbones have always been thought of as natural beauty and youth only given to those select few by the powers from above. If you’ve lost the contour in your cheeks, you have lost, “the fullness of youth”, as they say.  As we age, we lose valuable facial fat from our cheeks and facial skeleton, which can make us look aged, while others are born without cheek definition. In these facial aging and hereditary situations with a visible lack of cheek volume, the use of cheek implants can be a relatively quick and effective way to add desired facial definition with immediate results.

Benefits of a Cheek Implants

No Visible Scarring
Most cheek implant procedures allow for incisions to be made inside the mouth, a huge plus for patients who want to benefit from transforming their facial profile without visible scarring

Try Before You Buy
Cheek implant patients have the option to ‘test out’ a relatively accurate depiction of what their post-surgical self will look like by applying dermal fillers to the area. Dermal fillers add volume and definition to the cheeks temporarily.

Permanent Results
Cheek implants are permanent modifications to the facial profile. Unlike dermal fillers that call for repeated procedures, synthetic implants offer long-lasting results.

Add Balance and Proportion
Cheek augmentation creates balance and proportion that was lacking before in your facial features, resulting in a more symmetrical and well-balanced appearance. This procedure can also restore volume that has been lost through aging.

Cheek Implant Risks

Like all surgeries, a cheek augmentation procedure comes with the risk of potential complications. Dr. Bell has been performing these procedures for many years and, as such, the risk of a significant complication is extremely low. Regardless, please note that all complications are managed and corrected as part of your surgical fee.

While Dr. Bell has not seen most of the risks listed below, these complications have been reported:

Infection
Although infections are very rare with respect to this procedure, Dr. Bell and his experienced team still take every precaution to ensure that the surgery is a smooth, seamless experience.

Swelling
In some cases, the procedure may result in swelling that can last several days. However, any discomfort can be significantly diminished using oral medication prescribed by the doctors at SpaMedica.

Bleeding or Hematoma
While rare, it is possible for a small collection of blood, or a hematoma, to develop under the skin as a result of this surgery. The SpaMedica surgeons will take every precaution possible to prevent this from happening, such as evaluating the patient beforehand to ensure that they are not at risk for developing this complication.

Numbness
Some patients experience a loss in sensation in the facial area immediately following a cheek augmentation procedure. This is perfectly normal, and any numbness should subside in the days following the procedure.

Why Choose SpaMedica for Cheek Implants?

Led by the incomparable Dr. Bell, the experienced cosmetic surgeons at SpaMedica combine technical ability and unparalleled precision with each patient’s procedure. Different Types of Cheek Implants

Cheek implants come in different shapes and sizes, some sit high on the cheek bone and some more under the cheek sweep. Meeting with your SpaMedica plastic surgeon to discuss the specific area to be augmented and the volume and size of the implant required will be part of your detailed consultation.

Non-Surgical Cheek Implants Alternatives

Dermal soft tissue fillers are a popular alternative to a permanent cheek implant. The advantage of the dermal filler is the ease of injection, ability to customize the size by adding or subtracting and, it eventually goes away after a year or so if you don’t want to maintain the cheek volume.  It is also reversible with the addition of an antidote enzyme injection if you want the cheeks removed or reduced.

How is a Cheek Implant (Cheek Augmentation) Performed by Dr. Tom Bell?

A cheek implant treatment will be administered within one of our suites under the guidance or direct care of Dr. Bell. The surgeon will first meet with the patient to determine their specific individual needs. The patient will be given the option to “try on” the type of facial implant they want to get by applying temporary dermal fillers.

Before surgery, the patient will receive local anaesthesia. Dr. Bell will then insert cheek implants through an incision made in the patient’s mouth, which means the procedure will result in no visible scarring to the patient’s facial profile.

How to Prepare for Cheek Implants

During the pre-operative consultation, your doctor will review your facial profile and discuss what your goals are. It is best to be realistic with your expectations. Dr. Bell will then walk you through the procedure and care that should be taken, discussing your medical history and allergies to avoid adverse and negative effects during and after surgery.

What to Expect After a Cheek Implants

Facial implants do not require much maintenance; however, for non-surgical procedures such as the VolumaLift augmentation with hyaluronic acid volume can last anywhere from 12-24 months.

Cheek Implants Recovery & Timeline

Day 1-5:  There will be mild to modest bruising and swelling for a few days after the procedure. We recommend patients plan on taking 3-5 days off from work to recover.

Week 1-2: While the recovery phase for facial implants differs from patient to patient, most can return to work in 1-2 weeks.

Week 6-12: Further healing occurs.

  • While changes are immediately noticeable, final results will become apparent when the initial stages of swelling and bruising resolve over 12 weeks.
  • Facial movements may be restricted. Avoid any unnecessary force or contact during the recovery phase.
  • The procedure is performed with dissolvable stitches.

Best Procedures Paired with Cheek Implants

Cheek implants are often combined with rhinoplasty and/or facelift surgery. Lower lid and upper lid blepharoplasty can complement the look of cheek implants.  Non-surgical Botox injection and Fractional RF or laser resurfacing is also a good combination.

Cheek Implants FAQ

How Painful is it to Get Cheek Implants?

Getting cheek implants is like any other procedure; with proper local anesthesia, you should not have too much pain. Post-surgery pain can typically be controlled by NSAID’s (non-steroidal anti-inflammatories).

How Long Do Cheek Implants Last?

Cheek augmentation with implant surgery will allow you to gain significant volume and definition to your facial features. One of the main benefits of this type of treatment is that, unlike the other options such as fillers, the implants are permanent and will last a lifetime.

Can Cheek Implants Move?

With a well-designed pocket and good surgical execution, it would be very uncommon for a well-healed cheek implant to ever shift or move, without some significant trauma or force.
